so i've been getting audio hiccups/stuttering on HBO-hd lately. i don't watch much tv, so i only see it on sopranos, and in hbo movies. i never see it on SD recordings (i only watch daily show) -- and the periodic blackouts i was getting on commander-in-chief seemed to have to do with the OTA cutting out rather than the tivo, but now i'm not sure.
i sat and watched about 20 minutes of discovery HD and a little of hdnet and didn't have a single stutter.
any ideas? if it's the drive why would it only manifest on hbo?
thanks!
Wes

I think there is a problem at the source with HBOHD which doesn't show up all of the time, and doesn't affect all STBs, either. I saw one HBOHD movie a couple weeks ago that showed this stutter about once a minute (on both HR10s, actually, as I was viewing the buffer) while I have not seen it since and also not on HBO. It seemed more regular and predictable than what you would expect from either a reception or HDD issue, both of which manifest a little more randomly.
Speaking as someone who maintains broadcast video servers for a living, this is not uncommon, and is difficult to troubleshoot or repair permanently, but 97 times out of 100 restarting the server will cure it, at least for a time. Maybe that's what the folks at HBO should think about. We do a preventative cold reboot weekly just to stay out of this type of trouble.
I guess what I'm saying is that my educated guess is that there is an issue that is relevant to the distributor rather than to the HR10 itself (but of course that does not rule out issues with a particular HR10).
HBO HD has been having ongoing issues with lip sync for quite some time now so you are definitely not the only one. HBO is aware of the problem and "in progress" in fixing it. But you never know what that really means. Patience is your best bet, they'll fix it at some point.

This was especially a problem while watching Batman Begins a few days ago.

Yet apparently not always. I watched B Begins a couple weeks ago and had no problems with lipsync. (Nice wheels, Batman. :D )

Not lip sync, the stuttering. I have only seen lip sync issues using 508, but switching to 70 fixed that.

yeah - i'm not aware of lipsync, but rather the stuttering (video and audio both i guess) and it is ridiciulously annoying...

There are lots of threads out here complaining about our buggy HR10's with audio and studdering issues. I don't think the hard drive is the issue with most of them. And it looks like D* has no interest in fixing it. They keep promising a new HD DVR to keep us on the hook. If they do not release it soon I am going to DISH. I am fed up with the glitches.

if it was the hr10 why would it only happen on hbo (70) ? it really does make hbo stuff unwatchable though...
My wife recorded a movie on HBO-HD and she's had audio issues with it. She's not been able to watch it all the way through but the audio is inconsistent. First time she tried to watched it: perfect audio. 2nd time: no audio. 3rd time: audio. 4th:None.
