View Full Version : Question re: Multiple S2 DirecTiVos in same room (remote issues)

I am sure some of you smart people have confronted this issue and solve it. I would like to have my HR10-250 hooked up to the same TV as my S2 DirecTiVo. Unfortunately, I came to the realization that they both use the same remote IR frequency and, therefore, this is a terribly messy situation (I tried putting one of them in Standby, but then anytime you press the DirecTV button to go to DirecTV Central, the unit that is asleep comes to life).
Any thoughts? Can anything be reconfigured so that they operate on different remote frequencies? Any other clever workarounds? Wise guys need not respond -- I am not willing to put tape over whichever unit I am not using at a specific time -- I would like a professional solution that does not involve duct tape or post-it notes.

Yes, you can assign different remote codes to each receiver/remote.
It's in the manual, I forget what page, as I don't have them in front of me.
Make sure to cover (magazine works great) one while setting the code on the other.
Default is "0" which controls all TiVo's, so you'll have to change both of them.
It's something like go to the System Info page.
Page down 1 or 2 pages and you'll see the remote code.
Press a number 1-9, then "right".
Or something like that.

Look in your manual on "Setting A Remote Address". It oulines a procedure to change the channel on one of your DVR'. You can have up to 9 diffeent DVR's in the same room.

RTFM -- it is such a pleasant environment here. Better than ************.com (they would have spelled it out rather than merely present the acronym).
People like me and I am sure many of you NEVER read manuals. Part of the fun in getting a new gadget is figuring it out myself. I'll maybe read the manual further down the line, but TiVos are usually so easy, I have never had cause to do so.
So anyway, thanks Phox for turning wiseguy mode off momentarily. I appreciate it. Arcady can BMFA.

Coming to a forum to ask how to do it is not "figuring it out yourself."

Wow, you are a true a-hole. I hope you don't act like this in "real life".
I just have two words for you: "Stargate Fan". 'Nuff said.

edit: can we close the thread now? I wouldn't want this open in 6 hours when the next dumbass comes along and asks the same exact question AGAIN.

So I am a dumbass now, huh? Thanks for your patience and overwhelming kindness. I find myself wondering why you (and others like you) bother coming to this board, and taking the time to post responses to people like me, if that is what you think of us. I am quite confident that I am several rungs above you on any ladder you can think of relating to any aspect of achievement, so I just find it very amusing and sad. You are compensating for something......

Too much Looney Toons for me, not enough Stargate, I suppose...
On that note, good night.

... Part of the fun in getting a new gadget is figuring it out myself. I also like to figure things out first. But, when I hit a strumbling block, I go find the manual first before asking the question. That's why it is included with the unit.
Cover the IR sensor on unit A.
Navigate to the system information screen on unit B until you see the remote address (0 not set).
Point the remote away from the tivos, press and hold the Directv and pause buttons until the light on the remote stays steady and release.
Aim the remote at unit B and press the number 1. Then press the right arrow.
The remote address on the screen will change to "1"
Repeat the process with unit A. This time just use the number 2 button.
If you only have one remote, you can simply do this process with each unit one at time. Then when you want to reprogram the remote back and forth between the tivos, just cover the remote with your hand, and enter previous button commands and it will work with whichever remote address you just programmed.
Why such hostility???

It also helps if you know where the pesky manual is....

This place never fails to amaze me. Why are there so many people that insist on jumping into threads to do no more than insult others? I haven't had my manual in years and if something happened like a unexpected reboot and i forgot how to redo my 30 skip, theres no way in hell i would ask anyone here! This is a shame that folks can not come to a nice forum and ask questions without someone in so many words tell them to FU*C OFF. You may think this extreme but think about it, that is what you are saying!
And to those offended by this behavior don't take it to personally, these people will never change. In coming here for 2.5 years the same ones do this over and over like it is their mission in life to make others feel bad therefore making themselves feel big. It is real easy to be rude on a forum!

In some cases the info isn't in the F* manual, like with the T60's, no directions anywhere on how to switch addresses, nor that there is a learning feature on they remote.

I can't help but throw my worthless 2 cents into the pissing contest. If folks don't like repeated questions being asked then don't respond. No one is making anyone post responses/questions. If you don't like the question or it's been asked 100 times, then leave it to the moderators. It shouldn't matter how many posts someone has. Some of these folks need to get off there high horse. Last time I heard no one in this thread owns this Forum site.
Now I'm off my high horse. :) I don't mean to offend anyone.
Edit- 7:13, In reference to post #22.
jkrell, look in your manual, you should be able to find your answer there. :D

What really gets me are the idiots that will post to a thread with something that has nothing to do with the subject of the thread. It's just like all they wanted to do was hear themselves complain.
Oh-oh, nevermind. :o :p
