had to call verizon today, and their bottom line is that i can replace my cable TV and cable modem AND save @ $40 a month.

will i be able to use my existing S2 Tivo, in addition to the one that comes with DTV?
is this advisable, or worthwhile?

thanks,
spenny

We have both a Tivo and the DirecTV Tivo machine. I like the TIVO box better because it doesn't need a phone line, so we have it hooked up via our home network.

We are TIVO addicts! We will take it any way it comes!!

:)

Enjoy!

We have both a Tivo and the DirecTV Tivo machine. I like the TIVO box better because it doesn't need a phone line, so we have it hooked up via our home network. And the DirecTV version doesn't need one after the inital phone call. One of mine hasn't been connected to a phone in 1,190 days.

The type of Tivo you want depends on what you want to do. There are numerous postings about the advantages of both.

However, if the SA doesn't have Lifetime Subscription you should consider getting the DireCTV DVR (preferably a non-R15 unit.)Just to clarify, the resaon why this is true is that your total fee for the service will be only $5.99 a month, regardless of the number of units you are using.

Another major advantage, although they are posted all over this forum, is that the recording with a Directivo (or any Directv DVR, although we are not allowed to discuss the other), is lossless, offering much better quality.

SA?
i do have a lifetime subscription. do the DTV boxes have similar video out connections on the back? so the DTV boxes have better compression than my S2 Tivo

so the DTV boxes have better compression than my S2 Tivo They don't re-compress the DirecTV signal. They just record it and play it back. "Live" TV and recorded TV look exactly the same.
