Okay, I've had a good tough time the past few days getting Closed Captioning working. This used to work, connecting my cable box to my Pioneer TiVo DVR/DVD burner via composite video cable, and then connecting my Pioneer TiVo DVR/DVD burner to my Magnavox CRT television via component video cables. However, the same set-up didn't work, connecting my Pioneer TiVo DVR/DVD burner to my Samsung HL-S5087W DLP. I actually tried three different cable boxes today, the old one, a Motorola 5100 and a Motorola 3412. Going back to the first cable box, it worked only after I connected my Pioneer TiVo DVR/DVD burner to my Samsung HL-S5087W DLP via composite video cable. So I think it must be something about the Samsung HL-S5087W, specifically with respect to processing input from the component video ports. However, Samsung says very clearly that they support Closed Captioning via all input cables.
Can anyone shine any light on this? I suppose I can live with composite video from my Pioneer TiVo DVR, but I'd rather have better video, if there is some way to accomplish it while keeping the closed captioning I'm getting.
