I currently have a virgin DSR6000. I finally want to upgrade and hack, but I'd like to start with a Series 2, so it can easily interface with my home network. I see several units on eBay that come without a hard drive (which is fine, because I was going to upgrade anyway), but they also come without a power cable and remote.

Would I be able to use my remote from the DSR6000 and the power cable for Series 2 units, such as DSR704 or DSR7000?

Super, thanks for the quick response. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to be stuck trying to find some obscure power cable and extra remote.

I wonder why so may sell as TiVo box only and nothing else listed ?

Are these units that were stolen ?

Why would any legitimate owner be selling it without a power cord, or the remote control ?

Buyer beware.

Buyer beware. That's not always the case. When theives stole my Dtivo they took the cord and the remote.
'Course, I called DTV and told em that the unit was stolen. In some of my dreams I get called by the police who have apprehended the thief because DTV turned them in.

Only the r10 had a different power cord from the rest of the family! No power cord and no remote dont always = stolen! I have a drs704 in mothballls where i lost the remote and cord. The remote cause i use a universal the cord cause i misplaced it  Im sure it will turn up , but if i desire to sell it it will be sans cord and remote!

Buyer beware. On ebay it would not be an easy task to sell something stolen and remain anonomous, Credit card and checking needed. Not imposible mind you but there are better ways of selling stolen items(Not speaking from experience   )!

Stanley, I see your point, and I have no clue as to why this guy is selling units with no HD's, no remotes, and no cables. However, by selling them at $25/each (and that includes shipping!), it wouldn't even make it worth the effort to steal them and sell them.

Just for the record, the power cables aren't all that obscure -- you can get replacements at Radio Shack for 3 or 4 bucks.

They did give me the one I showed them however, so it worked out in the end.

That's a pretty hilarious dream. If the DIRECTV rep. they called actually won't activate it because it was stolen(probably would activate after the caller said - It's not stolen about 3 times) how would DIRECTV "turn them in" ? Call the FBI ? Call local police ? All this assuming the caller told DIRECTV his real name, real address, favorite hangouts, etc...
