View Full Version : Problems installing a stacker...

I thought that I installed it per the directions, but I’m still having some problems. I don’t seem to be getting much in terms of reception for a number of the channels in the 3xx range. I saw serious signal degradation/artifacts on Spike TV and then I flipped a few channels and saw the same on the Hallmark channel.
When I run the signal tests on my DSR6000, it shows that I’m getting plenty of signal. I’m not sure how to proceed with debugging. I don’t know if it is an even/odd transponder related issue. I thought it might be so I put one tuner on Spike TV and the other on Hallmark under the assumption they might be on the same (i.e. even/odd) transponder, but they also appeared blocky.
Any suggestions?

Need more information ....
* Why are you using a stacker/destacker?
* What brand/model stacker/destacker did you buy?
* How exactly is everything connected?
* What type of satellite dish do you have?
* Do you have a multiswitch?
* What signal readings do you get for the various transponders in the dish setup menu?

Oops I didn't realize that there was a respons to the thread! :(
I am using a stacker because my condo has only a single RG6 cable that goes to each room. DirecTivo requires 2.
I am using a US575, PAL30, HRPI, HRS4, and a D575D
The dish has two cables that go to the US575 has one cable that goes to the Pal30. The "DC" plug of the Pal30 has nothing connected and the other side goes to the HRPI which connects to a HRS4 splitter w/ 3 of the outputs capped. A single cable goes to the D575D which splits it into two for the receiver.
I don't know exactly what type of dish I have, but it is a dual LNB.
I don't have any multiswitches connected
I get strong signal readings on most of the transcievers (even + odd + high + low). I can record specific readings if that will help.
Some channels seem to come in fine.
Others don't come in at all (spikeTV)
Others come in but w/ significant degradation (i.e. lots of artifacts) -- i.e. fox
If I disconnected the stacker and just run a single cable to my DSR6000, all of the channels come in just fine.

If you have an oval dish, then you have a multi-satellite dish. For most areas, this would be needed to get your locals. Many of the channels in the 3XX range, especially the higher channels are on a different satellite (119). Most stackers only work with the original satellite(101). When you have the stacker in place, you cannot receive the signals from the 119.

only HD (barely any HD anymore) and locals are on the 119...at least as far as DTV programming goes..101 carries the majority of the programming and a lot of the locals in the nation come from the 101.

Unless they moved them, some of the channels in the 37x group are on the 119. The one that I know of is the NASA channel (376).

NASA moved to 101 some time ago.
With the stacker disconnected the DSR receives all channels but with only one output.
Try removing the splitter from the equation. If you only have the one DVR then the splitter isn't needed. Just use the two outputs from the dual destacker. I get the idea that you have your own dish, but the problem is in the number of coax run to each room.
The stacker could be at fault or the destacker. Try removing the destacker and connect to the DVR. You will not be able to get the 18v (even) transponders, but then you should be able to see if any channels using the odd TPs have problems.

All of the Spanish package programming is at 119, however, the Spanish channels included in Total Choice (Univision and Galavision) are at 101.

AND spanish/chinese programming.
the 101/119 dish was commonly referred to as the "para todos" dish back in the day, and a majority of the spanish channels are still on the 119. (it was also called the directv+ dish because some odd channels were once thrown on there, too)
