Standalone TiVo with new DirTV boxes?

My family used 3 TiVos until switching from cable to DirectTV a few months ago. The cable picture was awful in our area :down: , but the TiVo service was great. :D

Now we have the opposite problem. The picture is a whole lot better, but the DVR supplied by DTV (an R15 model) is the pits. :mad:

Does anyone know how to make my S2 TiVos work via serial cable with DTV D10 or R15 units? The geometry of my setup would make it very inconvenient to use the IR transmitters.

The D10 is hit or miss. Some variants work with a serial cable, some don't. The newer D11 doesn't seem to work at all. The R15, as far as I know, isn't controllable by a TiVo at all.

There are lots of remote IR solutions on the market.
