View Full Version : 7.3 killed my TiVo-to-TiVo transfer ability...any ideas?

Both my stand-alone TiVos got 7.3 a couple days ago and now neither TiVo sees the other.

Ironically, BOTH TiVos see my PC without a problem and can transfer to it. They can also both access the Internet without a problem. They just don't see each other. :(

Of course, I've reset them, etc, to no avail.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried rebooting again? Our TiVos have sometimes lost their wireless connections and rebooting took care of it. Well actually, moving them into two different rooms is what solved the problem permanently.

I'm sure you've already tried going back through the wireless set up--but maybe that will restore something.

Doesn't sound good... hope I don't get 7.3 at all, but get 7.3f (for fix) when it comes out!

Yep--and keep in mind that both TiVo's wireless connections work--they can both connect to the Internet and to my PC. They just can't see each other now for some reason. So, for instance, I could transfer a show to my PC from TiVo 1 and then transfer from my PC to TiVo 2. But not directly from 1 to 2. Pretty frustrating.

Yeah, it's weird, I've seen a few other bugs in this update, too. I don't think it was ready for prime time. :P

You could always try signing into tivo.com and double-checking that the MRV is still enabled on both machines. Maybe that got reset somehow? Worth a shot.

Good idea--but I just checked and both are set for transfers.

When I had this problem with previous versions of their software, a reboot of the Tivos *and* the Router cleared things up. I would try this one more time. If that doesn't work, maybe it is a new bug in 7.3... and if so, I guess I won't be signing up for the priority list. :)

Hmmm...didn't think about rebooting my router. I'll reboot all three and let you know what happens...

Well, I've rebooted the router a few times, and each TiVo a couple times, but still can't get the TiVo's to see each other--though they both still see the network and my PC just fine.

One interesting thing I've noticed in my router is that whichever TiVo connects last ends up "adding" itself to the other TiVo's description in my router. For instance, if I look at connected devices, I see:

192.168.0.2 Main PC
192.168.0.3 TIVO_1TIVO_2
192.168.0.4 TIVO_2

Weird, huh? Geez, and it worked so nice before! :(

Try checking the advanced troubleshooting screen for transfers:

Assuming the navigation hasn't changed in 7.3:

TiVo Central - Messages & Settings - Troubleshooting - Transferring Recordings and then press Enter on your remote.

Just curious as to what it will say in there.

It gave me a whole list of things to try--most of which we've done here. The last item says both TiVos must be on the same subnet...how can I verify that?

Well, if your TiVos were working before 7.3, they are probably on the same subnet (meaning, they both have addresses where the first three numbers of their IP addresses are the same).

I was referring to the advanced troubleshooting screen though. From that screen you were on, press Enter on your remote. It should show you a list of all the DVRs it "sees" on the network, their TSNs, and statuses.

Ah, ok, we're on the same subnet then.

Good tip about that screen--I didn't realize it was there. But now I'm even more puzzled.

BOTH TiVos clearly see each other according to that screen. So it's not that the TiVo's can't see each other--it's just that I can't access the other unit from the Now Playing list.

Any other suggestions? I've thought about just throwing them out the window, but I don't know if that'll do me any good. :P

When you go into your System Information screen, is TiVoToGo listed as "a,a,a?"

You could also try disabling transfers on tivo.com, force a few calls on each box, then re-enable transfers and force a few more connections to see if that helps.

Whoops! OK, so I just went on to check that (and it was) but guess what? BOTH machines are working now. And I didn't do anything else and another call hasn't been placed. So my guess is that it was the resetting of the router and both TiVos that fixed it! It just must have taken some time to get "back on track."

Well, anyway, crisis over and I really appreciate the quick responses here. One of these suggestions fixed it--so take heart if you're going to 7.3 and this happens to you. Reboot everything and wait a little while and maybe yours will fix too!

Or, jump up and down on your left foot and throw salt over your right shoulder! I hear that works well, too! :)

Glad to hear it's working again.

I had the same problem with my new dual tuner and my single tune model. For me it was going to tivo central and just resaving the information. It takes up to 2 hours for the update to get back to the box that is why there is a delay and the all of a suddan it starts working out of the blue.

BTW I am on my 3rd dual tuner and I am about to return it and get my money back as it reboots it self several time a day.
