SD-DVR40 w/HDVR2 Hard Drive

I recently had my HDVR2 die, but I think the hard drive is still good. I would like to recover my recordings. If I put the HDVR2 Hard Drive in the SD-DVR40 will the system boot up and allow me to recover my recordings??

I don't want to fry two boxes.

Unless the drive has been hacked/zippered, you can only play those recordings in the TiVo on which they were made. If it was hacked/zippered, then you can swap the drives and run 51killer.tcl to get rid of the #51 error. Anything recorded prior to hacking will not be able to move to a new box.
