I decided to start rebooting about once a week so that I don't get that 'channels not available' error that is impossible to prevent. Happened to my old and new HDtivos recently.

I use a sony vl900 remote and when i rebooted, sometimes the live button would bring up the guide instead of switching tuners. I figured the programming got messed up and so reprogrammed it. Well today, after rebooting, i used the original peanut and hit live and it STILL brought up the guide. So it's definitely not my universal.

Anyone ever have this problem? I can't say for sure it's on both units but will be watching in the future.

the problem went away when i it tivo then live, no guide came up.

I have the same problem on 1 of my HD DirecTiVos, but not the other. Just press [TiVo] and then [live] and it goes away. It has something to do with defaulting back to compensate for older SA TiVo remotes, but I don't remember all of the details.

There are two different types of remotes for the DirecTiVo. The DirecTiVo must see a sequence of remote commands before it can determine which type of remote it has. As pointed out above the sequence TiVo and then live is enough for the TiVo to figure it out.

They do, but all peanut remotes are interchangeable, so it has to know how to respond to the slightly different old-style SA peanuts.
