This may be a silly question...
Can I use the HR10-250 HDMI->DVI with a plain old LCD? I have limited space in a bedroom with a PC that uses the analog input with an LCD. The LCD's DVI input is free. Obviously it's a PC *OR* TV option, can't do both simulateously, but will this work? Any caveats?
Thanks!

If the LCD will accept 720p or 1080i signals, then it will work. Not all DVI monitors will. Look at the manual for your monitor to see if it can do 1280x720 or 1920x1080. If so, it may work.
The caveat will be the need for an external audio source.

Manual says recommended (and maximum) resolution is: 1280x1024
There is no list of other supprted rez's. Cheap-azz LCD
What's the worst that can happen? Could I fry anything by trying it?
External audio is not a problem, Pioneer VSX1015 will handle that.
Thanks.

You can plug it in and try. It shouldn't hurt anything if it doesn't sync up and work. I'd try 720p as the output selection on the TiVo. 480p may also work. I doubt 480i or 1080i will work with it.

It probably won't work, because your monitor probably doesn't have HDCP, and I think the Tivo insists on it (it's part of the HDMI spec).

I'm fuzzy on whether HDCP is required with the HDMI-to-DVI cable or just for straight HDMI.

I just tried my HR10-250 with my two year old Samsung LCD monitor (DVI but non-HDCP.) It worked on 480p and 720p, but everything was squished in 720p since the screen is 4:3 and not 16:9. At 480i, the screen went to sleep. At 1080i, there was a garbled image shown on the screen (since this monitor does not support interlaced video.)
