What is the real reason for replacing Christopher Eccleston? He was awesome! And who is this new nard of an english man playing the Doctor for the second season?
Why would they do this? This Dr. Who rocked! I never really got into the original Dr. Who series, but I have to say that the reason that I think I liked this one was because of the way Christopher Eccleston played him.
They better bring him back some how!

Eccleston signed on from the very beginning to do one season, and one season only, to get the show off the ground.

I don't know why this is all in spoiler mode, but
He had only signed for one season. They had announced he was leaving before the first episode aired in the UK.
Remember he was not the first nor the last doctor. The bad thing about this was, most last 3 or more years. He can only regenerate so many times, if they switch out so much, the writers will have to write some loophole to allow him to continue.

Okay, maybe the new doctor (for season 2) is not a nard; but come on! This stinks!
Is Christopher Eccleston a big actor in Europe? Why did he only want to do one season?

I know you didn't see much of the old show, but some of the fun of it is learning about the new doctor. All of them are different. I personally liked Peter Davision the best. I guess the next would be Tom Baker, or maybe Pertwee(I liked the James Bond type of his doctor)

Eccleston did not want to be typecast by playing the doctor long term.

[I don't know why this is all in spoiler mode, but...]
Since the thread title contains neither a spoiler warning, a date, a episode number, or title, it's possible folks could wander in not realizing Eccleston was leaving. That - and we're being silly.
To expand on the above... Eccleston is a fairly well known British actor on stage, film, and television. He has always enjoyed playing a wide range of varying and different characters, and doesn't seem to like to get stuck to a particular role for too long. (He's been quoted as being afraid of being typecast, makeing it harder for him to continue to act in a wide variaty of roles - but that quote may or may not be accurate at all). Given the fact that most of his predicessors are known for being Doctor Who, and Doctor Who only - it's not a unreasonable concern.
As to David Tennant - he's different, but hardly a nard (???). He is too damn young looking considering the average age of his predecessors, but he does allright throughout the next season.

In the episode THE FIVE DOCTORS, the Time Lords told The Master that if he helped them, they would give him a whole new set of regenerations. We don't know how they'd have done it, but apparently it can be done. This opens up WORLDS of possibilities for The Doctor.
Oh...
This is all in spoiler mode (except for one person who apparently doesn't get it  ) because of the nature of the discussion. There being a new actor means The Doctor "died" at the end and had to regenerate. Quite a spoiler, I'd say.

Can You Help Me With A Tivo Question?
It'd be best for you to go to the "help" forum.
It's not a good thing to "hijack" a thread. (Enter a thread about one thing, and try to switch it to something totally unrelated, especially when you could post your own thread or, in this case, go to a forum meant for help questions.)

For the moment, let's not worry about Torchwood. (The title is an anagram of "Doctor Who", by the way. :D )
Let's worry about season two.
Not long after season one began airing in the UK, there were talks between BBC and SciFiChannel about running the show in the United States.
Those talks broke down, and it was at least six months (if memory serves) before SciFi suddenly announced that they'd be running season 1 of the new Who after all.
I was at the SFC website's forums earlier tonight, and NOBODY has heard a THING about season 2.
We may be in for another fingernail biter...

I have already watched the first 8 episodes of season 2, and I am enjoying it as much as season 1.

I was a little disapointed with this finale. Even for Dr. Who, some parts of the story line seemed a bit...stretched.

Does it matter if SciFi carries it? It might open up new viewers for Doctor Who, but the diehards will have already seen it curtesy of the internet. Or barring that will purchase the DVD's when the BBC puts them out.

No, you are correct. It's little more than an idea (probably with written scripts and such, but AFAIK, nothing on film yet).
I don't think I'm giving anything away by saying that there are lots of off-beat references to it in the second season that can be taken either as an in joke or laying the foundations for the new show.
[Note to thwart - why not edit the title to include spoilers? Then we can have an open discussion without all the mouse-work? Oh, and while editing, remove the second "e" from the word Finale. Thanks, and have a great day] :D

I am a fan, but I won't use a Bittorrent. I consider it stealing. If it doesn't air, and I can get a version of the DVD's that will play here, I will purchase them if the SciFi channel doesn't carry it. However, I really hope they do.

In Trial of a Timelord: The Ultimate Foe (Season 23, 1986) it's revealed that an Evil incarnation of the Doctor is 'extracted' after between Doctors 12 and 13. It's been a while since I've seen the episode, but I believe they called the 13th incarnation the Doctor's Final regeneration.
The Doctor's nemesis, The Master, also had developed a plan to obtain further regeneration ability.
