I have set my HD Tivo HR10-250 to "Clearing Program Data and To Do List". Screen says this will take one hour. It has already been over two hours. The red light blinks during this procedure. The unit was new and not a "refurb" back in August. Is it normal for the light to blink and how long might this take? Any info appreciated.

It can take several hours, so be patient. If it doesn't complete by then, try rebooting again (disconnect power, wait 30-sec, reconnect power). If it won't reboot, have it replaced under its one-year warranty by DirecTV.

Finished after about 3 hours. Guide data is now faster but programs still stumble with start/stop audio and video with some pixels that is the symtom which prompted the Clear Program and To Do List action. Connection is by HDMI/DVI and it is a newer unit that shouldn't have the older HDMI circuit card. Also did the re-boot. Doesn't get heavy use and has very few season passes. I am not hurting since I have another HD Tivo DVR and an SD Tivo DVR, but don't like the idea of exchanging it and maybe getting a refurb with the old type HDMI card and lease/2yr comitment hassle . Haven't tried a complete "Clear and delete everything."
Appreciate any additional advice

Sounds like its hard drive is dying. You can replace the hard drive yourself if you don't want to exchange it under warranty. Check out the resources in the Tivo Upgrade Center Forum here, including ....

At what point should you try the unplug? Mines been going on over 8 hours now. When I've done this before I'm sure it didn''t take this long.
I've been doing clear and delete everything but programs to head off the "Channel Not Available" problem, and the past couple of times things got better for a few months then the trouble came back. Its not that long since the last one, but I've been having terrible trouble recording World Cup games.
For the opener it decided to stop recording after 5 mins, but didn't know it'd stopped. (buffer display suddenly went back to half an hour, but it still had a red dot and refuse to start recording again, I rebooted.) This morning's it rebooted twice during the Holland match, at which point I thought I'd better try the clear and delete, expecting it to take an hour of 2. Now I've missed today's other 2 matches, and the British Grand prix.
Edit: I just gave up and unplugged it, I'll see if it comes back this time.
If it doesn't I'll have to put the original drive back in temporarily.

Oh dear! Its now making a periodic clicking sound, which does not sound like a healthy hard drive.

I forced a Kickstart 57 http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=4104818&&#post4104818 and now its alternating between green screen and rebooting.
I hope this gets better.
