Hey all! I'm hoping someone can help me with my Newbie-question. Is there anyway to download program from my R10 into a laptop so I can burn the program to a DVD? Is it as simple as connecting through the USB?

THANKS!

Nope, the R10 is not hackable through software like the other Series 1 and 2 units.

Only way you can get a program out of a R10 is to 'copy to VCR'.

Or to copy to a DVD recorder or an analog capture to your PC.

I had to add that, since the OP was probably going to ask.

This subject is perfect timing!

The picture on my HR10-250 began stalling with audio dropouts on all HD programming whether OTA or SAT. DirecTV sent me a refurbished unit. Can I swap the hard drives so as to save my settings and recordings?

Thanks,

Chris

Don't see how your post is related to the original, but no you can't just 'swap drives'. The programs are encoded to the card and motherboard in the unit.

I may be going out on a limb with this but the original post, while seeking a way to transfer a program to a laptop, seemed to be geared to an end result of saving programming.

In a very broad sense, you are correct, but unfortunately what you propose will not work.
