View Full Version : Samsung SIR-S4080R, 48-bit LBA Limited??
Hi. I have a couple of Samsung SIR-S4080R DVR's. Does anyone know if it has the 48-bit LBA limit (137GB)? I was thinking that if it did, it would not make sense to try to upgrade it past a 120GB HD, if I ever got around to upgrading it.
THanks in advance for any information.

I have the model before yours (SIR4040R) and am running a 300gb hard drive in it for 265 hours of programming. It's not the unit that is limited to 137gb, it's the software on it. Just make sure you download a LBA48 boot CD image and you can go as large as you want with the replacement drive.
Hi. Thanks for helping me out again (linux computer post). Would this LBA48 CD be somewhat like the old EZ-BIOS in the PC world?
I was thinking that I might not need too much space, but "more space" is making "more sense". :-)

Here's a link to where you can download the ISO image for a LBA48 CD:
http://www.ptvupgrade.com/products/software/lba48/lba_4.04_license.html
Use your CD Burner software to create this... most CD burner software has a 'create CD from ISO image' option on it.
Follow the Hinsdale Howto for step-by-step instructions on how to use MFStools.

Drives are so cheap.....why not put what you can afford. Never have to worry about recording time again. I have (2) 250 gig drives in my Samsung.

You do not need to get a different image if you are running 6.2 software on it. 6.2 has a LBA-48 kernel. Versions before that did not have a LBA-48 kernel.
Hi. Thanks for the continued information. They are both running 6.2.something.
