Well, what does everyone think of the top 20??
I am thrilled about:
*Musa (his freestyle is off the hook! He reminds me in a lot of ways of Jamil from last season)
*Donyelle
*Allison
*Guy whose name I don't remember but who looks a little like the swing guy but isn't. ;)
There are quite a few that I feel we haven't seen AT ALL, especially the women. I can't wait for the next show.

I cant comment too much since I have only been browsing the show while watching the Baseball game but they do have plenty of people that can dance up a storm.
Pretty fun to watch the start I dont know how the season will play out.

what a boring show. could be better. the problem is they edit it so that the entire show feels like a recap. last comic standing, the apprentice, etc all at least have the feel of happening *while* you're watching it so there's a little bit of drama/anticipation.

You will love it starting next week, then, because they go LIVE, and then the viewing audience votes. The format is the same as American Idol.

Here's what happened.
I watched Wednesday night right up until the end but did NOT hear the announcement at the end of the show that the next installment would be Thursday night.
In the meantime, I was monitoring the Guide Data situation for 6/14 because I noticed that it wasn't getting picked up on the To Do List.
Why, you ask? Because the Giants game showing on KTVU (my Fox station) caused the show to be shifted to their sister station, KICU. No problem -- I selected that episode to record.
I even posted a Season Pass Alerts thread about that change.
Meanwhile, the 6/8 show was no longer in the Program Guide. Because of a Giants game.
Did I check the KTVU website? Did I think to set up a manual recording for for 6/8 on 9 PM on KICU, just in case?
That would have been the sensible thing to do.
But nooooooooo. I was too stupid with sleep deprivation to do that.
I hate bad Guide Data.
Burn in hell, Tribune.

I just don't understand why they showed the same show at 9:00 Wed & then 8:00 Thurs! I thought we were going to get 2 hours of picking the top 20.
And yeah, we didn't see a lot of the top 20 dance, and I hope the people next year learn that the crueler they are to you when telling you whether you made it or not, the more likely you made it. I just don't think that's warranted, but I guess it makes for dramatic TV when you can show Benji crying in the commercials.
I'm looking forward to the live shows. And I'm really glad they're letting Claire come right back next year without having to audition - she showed real dedication by continuing to do whatever she could do and wanting to stay in the competition.

Do ya think Hawk woulda made it if it hadn't have been for the Visa thing? (I do).

Finally got to see this thanks to the kindness of a buddy.
Nigel said "you could have taken someone's place" to Hawk but I suppose that is ambiguous. But in the context of the conversation, I understood his remarks to mean that Hawk WOULD have made it had they not been forced to disqualify him.
I am currently saving the earlier episodes to VCR, and I have to agree with all the comments that have been made about the unsatisfactory editing this season. Far too much time is spent in recapping the teasers rather than showing us anything new. For crying out loud, how many times do we have to watch that girl throwing up?

I know jack about visas, but what exactly was the problem with him having a student visa? Is he prohibited from holding any sort of job and getting paid for being on the show was the problem?

Yes exactly, he can't work here on a student visa.

He is not prohibited from holding a job, people on a student Visa can be employed. However, people on a student visa MUST be registered as a full time student and actively taking class.
If hawk had 'won' SYTYCD - part of the 'prize' would have been a year contract with Celine Dion's show in Vegas - a full time job. Additionally, there are probably other requirements (promotion tours, exhibitions, sponsor commercials, deals, etc) that would (most likely) require him to not be a full time student.
Perhaps the eligibility requirements of the show include something about being able to accept the prize / fullfill the duties if they win. Especially since they are already promoting Celine Dion's show as being the place the winner will get a contract with. Since he wasn't upfront with them about the problems he could face in accepting the prizes, they probably had no choice but to let him go.
------
Definately WAY too much recap going on, even in the show itself - Before every commercial you get a 3 minute recap of what is 'coming up next', then after the commercial you get a 3 minute recap of what has happend already.
Too bad he's not a dance major - he probably could have finagled some sort of work study program out of it.

There are (at least) two different types of student visas that I know of - a 'regular' student visa - issued for academic studies - where someone is sponsored by a university; and a non-academic visa where someone is sponsored for a vocation or job training.
I'm sure FOX with all their legal minds could have pushed through the paperwork to get him the proper doccumentation. Although it does open the door for others to cry foul - ie "it was rigged, Fox wanted him to win sooooo bad they even helped him with meeting the eligibilty requirements". Yeah, they probably could have worked something out, if they REALLY wanted to - but to me I got the impression that they were a bit pissed that he didn't tell them about it in the first place... so why should they try and help him.
I would have liked to see him stay - seemed like he had a lot to offer and could make the show a bit more interesting.
