Hi, I am new to TiVo. This sounds like a wonderful offer. Is it? This would be my first TiVo box. I just called TiVo and they told me, the service with this offer would be $12.95 per month. Inputs or advice much appreciated!

As long as you were planning on buying a laptop, then this looks like a good deal, especially since it includes a free Tivo wireless adapter(about $50). The deal is for an 80 Hr. single tuner Tivo, which goes for about 70 dollars after rebates. So you are actually saving a total of $120, not the $268 they are saying (everyone gets the $150 rebate when you buy it at a store).
So again, if you were planning on buying the laptop anyway, this is a good deal. Just remember this is the single tuner and not the latest tivo (Dual tuner).

Actually, CompUSA has a separate $70 rebate good thru 06/10 that's not involved with the laptop purchase so, when combined with the $150 TiVo mfgr rebate, the 80 hour unit is free (except for sales tax). www.bensbargains.net helped spot this limited time offer (see page 2 of the site for the details. The $70 CompUSA offer is #0023326.

If you look at the fine print, it is the same deal as the OP. It says you get a 70 dollar instant rebate with the purchase of a laptop.

No, see attached copy of the rebate form. It says nothing about buying anything else other than the 80 hour TiVo.

Thank you guys! Yeah, I am a die hard AAPL person, why would I buy a PC? Strange as it sounds, I would consider a cheap on the go PC notebook just for WiFi in the park and the TiVo networking as I heard it's more of a pain with mac then windows. The notebook ($789 Acer) comes with DVD burner, so I could actually archive the TiVo recordings on DVD. Thanks for the input, I will also consider only the TiVo box with the $70. Would the service still be only $12.95 a month?
Thanks again. You guys, and the forum, rock!

The service will still be for 12.95 a month, but you'll have to sign a year contract. This is no matter how much you pay for it, as long as you bought it retail and not directly from Tivo (Tivo has different pricing plans that are essentially the same as retail but appear different).

FYI Tivo announced some months ago they'll have TivoToGo service for the Mac available by 2nd Quater 2006. So it should be released within the next 3 weeks.
If you have a 2nd generatioin DirecTivo that been hacked with the Tivo Zipper, you can watch Tivo shows wirelessly on your Mac today using the excellent freeware Tivotool. See the Underground Forum on Tivocommunity for more info.

I don't remember a specific quarter being mentioned, just something along the lines of mid-year.
