I successfully DD'd my failing A drive to a new 120gb hard drive, put the new drive back in the Tivo with the original B drive, and after a short GSOD it worked fine and booted fine in successive attempts. I then pulled the drives from the Tivo and reconnect them to the computer and computer did not see the old B drive. I have tried connected it to various ide cables, switched jumpers and run Maxtor diagnostics, and the computer just does not see the drive (nor does the diagnostic program).
I then put it back into the Tivo and Tivo no longer boots up, so even though the B drive is spinning up, I have to conclude the drive is no longer functioning properly.
Two questions: 1. Am I missing any steps in trying to get the drive recognized?
2. If not, then I can go grab a new drive. Do I have to get another 80gb drive, or does it not matter? Do I have to do anything special to prep the drive or can I just pretend I am adding a new B drive using the Hinsdale instructions?
Any help would be appreciated.
