View Full Version : Does "Instant Cake" prohibit any future use of a different image?

I'm trying to upgrade my SD-DVR80 and I'm using a 200G drive that I previously had tried to use for a S1 SA using Instant Cake. The unit wouldn't boot, but I tried the drive in another HDR-112 and it did boot, but I didn't want to use the drive for that machine, so I set it aside for the D-TiVo. Now that I've tried to run mfsbackup & restore from the original drive, I'm stuck at "Welcome...powering up". So, now I'm trying to figure out where I'm messing up. I ran diagnostics on the drive last night and it passed. Does Instant Cake installed on a drive render it useless for any other image?

No, it doesn't. All InstantCake does is install a 'clean' image onto a drive for use in your TiVo. From the description of your problem, it sounds like you either don't have a good backup, are not restoring it properly, or possibly have some other problem with either the drive, a cable, or the TiVo itself...
