I have a Samsung Tivo DVR with a black remote control. How do I program the remote to control volume etc. on a new Philips TV set? I called Direct TV, but they lacked the info for my model of dvr. Message me to avoid a long post if necessary. Thanks.

You can try the standard TiVo remote programming capability which likely works and you can find that on the TiVo website.

Also, DirecTV very likely has the information if it is a DirecTiVo, but they just didn't want to look it up.

BTW, it took me 94 seconds to find the manual on the Samsung site and all of the Samsung DirecTiVos use the same process.

Page 110 in the manual (119 in the PDF) is the start of the Remote Control programming instructions and there is a warning that it might not work with all TV makes and models. The code numbers actually exist on the TiVo.

Press the TV PWR and DIRECTV buttons and enter the code for your TV.

The older Samsung Tivo DVR may not know about the new Philips TV set. Check Samsung's web page and see if they have any info on new codes that wight work.
