A lot of people have recommended this series and since the new season is starting (or started), is this a show that I could watch the new stuff without having to go back and watch the old, or should I look for the DVDs, watch the first 2 seasons and THEN get into the new season?

You could start watching the new ones, but if you are going to watch the old ones do that first. Some things won't make sense this season without some of the backstory, especially from last season. If you watch last season and then this season you should be fine....

I actually tivoed all of season 2 and did not watch it until a few months ago... This is a really good show. I have only seen the first episode this season so far.

Thanks. Looks like getting the DVD are the way to go :) Is this a short season series? Just want to know how much time I may need to put aside for this.

I think each season has about 12 episodes.

Great. Sounds like one rainy weekend per season :) Definitely doable!

Oh wow. This is such a phenomenal show you really owe it to yourself to start from the beginning. They're short seasons. It won't take long. And it's sooooo worth it.

That's what I hear. I'm not a huge fan of Dennis Leary, so I didn't watch, but a lot of people I know rave about it. Going to hit the library to see if they have a copy of the DVDs and watch this weekend. Times like this I wish I still had Netflix...

What he said.

The first two seasons are 13 episodes each, IIRC.

I jumped in midway through last season, and was a little lost.

It still was a great show, and I recommended it to many.

Now I've almost caught myself up, since FX was kind enough to rerun them all before starting this season.

Yes, I highly recommend watching from the very first eppy, since there is a lot of backstory.

C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon !!

I watched one show a few months ago and didn't think it was all that. Still kept it on the Tivo though. Then I had nothing else to watch one day and started watching the other ones. Then I ended loving it and can't wait for each new episode. I, too, found out about it thru good reviews here.

It does start a bit slow and the hallucinating is a bit strange at first but the shows just get better and better and the edgy comedy makes it a great mix of comedy/drama. I wasn't much of a fan of Dennis Leary either but his humor works better for me in an everyday setting vs standup.

Yeah, some of the humor is really great. You think, did they really say that?

Catch up first - it's totally worth it. I'm pretty sure that season 2 is out this month.

The show is one of the best on TV. The mix of comedy and drama is superbly done.

Gotta love the theme song and music in general too.

Catching up is on my list as well. I've seen a few episodes of season 1 and 2, but I want to watch them all before seeing this season. I did just watch "Discovery" and that made me want to go watch the previous seasons in order because I'm sure a lot of it would have resonated much more clearly had I done that in the first place.

I was worried that there would be nothing for me to watch this summer. Never watched this show, but you guys like it, so I'll try it.
