OK. I had to start this thread to rant. This show is a joke. I wish I didn't like stand up because I would ban this show in a second. They picked at LEAST 2 people that had NO RIGHT being in the house. They could not have picked a moer diverse bag of suck than they did last night. They passed on 1-2 comics that clearly "seemed" better than the ones they chose.

The one person that just made me nuts is that girl. Not Roz but the other girl. She SUCKED! No one laughed during her jokes, they were not funny and the ONLY reason she is in the house is because she is cuter than most of the girl comics. SAD!

Just had to rant and I hope she is knocked out 1st!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All I know is when they named the first 5 finalists and said that they would pick the second 5 next week I was caught saying to myself..."I hope the next 5 are funny."

I don't even get the casting from a reality show house perspective. I think it is going to suck.

I will of course torture myself and continue watching it, but I don't have much hope unless there is some actual talent on the other side.

Gay and Roz simply yell-scream their entire acts and are horrible. Josh Blue can't do anything, apparently but talk about his CP. I understand the feel good nature of his story, but he is not a good comedian. That April Macey girl is annoying but obviously cast for other reasons, and I can't even remember who the fifth person was but they were not good.

The 5th person is that guy with curly hair. He seems like he could have some potential so he is the only act I felt truly deserved to be in the house from what we saw.

Nope, nor was he funny...

Josh Blue can't do anything, apparently but talk about his CP. I understand the feel good nature of his story, but he is not a good comedian.

I can see how his act can get old after a few weeks, but my wife and I, both thought that he was funniest comic last night! And what would you expect him to talk about? Picking up girls in a bar? :)

We also liked the back lady (do not remember her name). But generally, I thought that this was difficult to limit it to just 5 people, there were several other worthy comedians who didn't make it.

This is what it must be like behind the scenes of any other reality TV shows. They get a bunch of good candidates and then pick the finalist based on the "roles" that they expect them to play in the house.

I won't disagree he might have been the funniest, but that is not saying much. It is just like the female comic who only focuses on being a woman or the black comic who is all about being black... It gets old very fast.. How about some comedy about being a human being? Everything does not have to be so narrowly focused. I have seen him 3 times now and I have had enough of his schtick.

I also think he is a bad mix for the house because one of the good parts of the house is a group of comedians will jump on each other and attack each other... Do you really think anyone is going to attack Josh?

The curly headed dude has the best stage act out of all of them. Roz and Josh Blue seem to get the sympathy vote. Roz is the junkie, and Blue as the token handicapable guy.

We need a flaming gay guy, angry black man, uptight rascist white guy, blonde hayseed that has never been in the city. Who we missing, the athletic jock, then drunk frat guy and smart asian/indian?

"Do you ever get the feeling that fantasy football is Dungeons and Dragons for all the meatheads that used to beat up the kids that played Dungeons and Dragons?"

I forget who said that, but it made me laugh. Other then that there were a few laughs from me here and there, but overall it was meh.

That chick sucked hard, if they were going to pick a cute girl to fill the "hot girl" role it should have been the offensive blond one, neither one of them are funny but the redhead was horrible and has crazy eyes.

I couldn't believe they picked rozz or gay. The hot chick was not that funny either, I agree, the blond hot chick was funnier and her material seemed like it could get really good. I just couldn't believe it.

I agree pretty much with all the comments made so far. Josh Blue was the funniest, but there are only going to be so many variants to his bit he can do. Roz is not funny at all, she just shrieks at you. The "attractive female" slot should have been filled by the blond who's stuff was funnier during the auditions than she was last night. Same with the curly haired guy, I thought he was one of the better comedians during the auditions and just seemed to screw up his timing last night. He was the only guy I was pleased to see make it.

Willy Wonka rocks it! At least better than most of the others. What was up with that dude that went on about parents codling kids and the whole circumcision thing? Kathy's look was priceless....the act.....tasteless

I agree that Josh Blue should have been chosen. I can understand picking Roz. However, I'm not sure I get the others.

Nikki Glazer should have been one of the five.

I agree terrible choices for the final 5. Gay is terrible. Roz is terrible.

Also, I get the feeling that the audience reaction shots are BS. A comic would make a bad joke and then they cut to everyone laughing their butts off. I mean if we were to trust what they showed us then EVERY comic killed. What are the chances of that? I would rather see someone bomb, it makes for better TV.

Josh Blue can't do anything, apparently but talk about his CP. I understand the feel good nature of his story, but he is not a good comedian.

We've only seen him do three minutes, and he kind of has to talk about the CP or people will spend the whole three minutes wondering what was wrong with him. I think he has potential. He owned the audience last night, and I doubt that he could have done that just on the sympathy factor. I think he has a lot more to offer, but hasn't had a chance to show us that yet.

I wonder how much of the selection is actually made based on the three minute set. You really can't tell much by a comic in three minutes. Some of the best comics I know couldn't do a three minute set to save their lives. Most headliners have a great 20 minute set, and an even better 45 minute set, but trying to finda three minute set after doing 45 minutes every night for years is just about impossible. Last year Will Durst, who has been headlining nationwide for the last twenty years, was eliminated in the first round.

Since most of the contestants are already working in the business, I'm sure the producers could find out more about them by making a few phone calls than they could from a three minute set. Comedy is a very gossipy business, and it wouldn't be hard to find out a lot about the contestants by talking to other comics they've worked with or club owners that have booked them in the past. Since what they seem to be looking for are barely competent road hacks that can be whiners, a-holes, backstabbers, or all three, the way to find that isn't by watching a pathetic three minute set.

I don't think we saw three minutes from any of the participants. There were twenty of them. The show is 60 minutes long. If we saw more than a minute of any act I'd be very surprised.

As far as Josh and his CP act, if I remember correctly, almost all of the comics last years did virtually the same act each time in the prelims. We didn't really see much new material until the final couple of rounds.

Exactly!

Remember folks, when watching this show, especially at this stage...you only see tiny snippets of their acts. They hold back material so we don't have to see it 3, 4, 5 times over the course of the show. What you saw is not everything that happened, it is highly edited. Does that mean that all the right comics were picked? Not necessarily, comedy is subjective, but I can easily imagine that these people are better than what we saw.

I have seen the acts of former contestants Rich Vos, Cory Kahaney, Dave Mordal, Alonzo Bodden, Gary Gulman and Jay London in person. And each and every one of them was better in person than the way they appeared on the show. Well, maybe not Vos as much. ;)

Hey, Vos was very funny on Quinn's Tough Crowd show.

Why'd they screw over Jay Mohr? (At least I see he is given a credit -- probably contractually required just like the creators of The Daily Show, which doesn't resemble its early self at all.)

I didn't hear anything about it, actually I was suprised to see the show come back. But I'm pretty sure that Mohr was pissed at the way the finale of LCS3 was pulled from NBC and relegated to basic cable only. Maybe damaged his relationship with the show.

I liked Mohr as the host.

Hey, Vos was very funny on Quinn's Tough Crowd show.
I'd say Vos had the highest percentage of jokes bomb on that show compared to any other regular. He'd usually just go into his "I suck" routine when that happened.

Actually, I didn't think he sucked when I saw him live, but he was no better than on TV. Every one of the others impressed me beyond what I saw on TV. It's almost unfair to watch a comic for just a couple minutes.

BTW, in my mind, the real winners were Dave Mordal for season 1 and Gary Gulman for season 2. At least, I thought they were the funniest, personally.

Roz might have been funny if not for the fact that she thought she had to scream every word into the mic. I can't believe they picked her. Why would anyone want to listen to that act?

When they got down to only one left and said it was the audience favorite, I knew it would be Josh Blue. I thought he was by far the funniest of the night.

He was the Audience choice, so i guess the producers didn't have a say with any of that.

I like willy wonka as well, roz sucks, gay sucks, blue is ok, but agree with above.
Ant was funny for exactly 3 minutes, then the gay schtick got old.

and the chick? eehh. I agree i like the young chick better.

I'll bet anyone here a million bucks that crazy lisp chick makes it next week. She won't have to tell one joke... she'll make "good tv". maybe rile up the house dynamics with her annoyingness.

"Do you ever get the feeling that fantasy football is Dungeons and Dragons for all the meatheads that used to beat up the kids that played Dungeons and Dragons?"

Well, I find it hard to complain because I didn't get to see the full 3 minutes. I had to base what I thought on the 1 minute or so plus the early rounds. I definitely think nikki glazer is attractive but I agree with their initial assessment in auditions - she is not quite ready. Her material is not strong enough and she doesn't have great timing.

Josh Blue is great. Maybe all he can do is make fun of himself, maybe not. His jokes are creative enough to make me think that he could probably talk about something else too. I like Bob Euker and all he ever does on any show is make fun of himself. It never gets old. I laughed quite a bit when Josh did the "Josh as traffic cop" impression.

I like the porter guy, but mostly because I remember him being funny in the auditions.

I think the woman they chose probably had better material than we saw. She also has a unique delivery, maybe they felt that the delivery was interesting enough. Keep in mind that comics tend to appreciate different things than we do.

I don't like Roz's delivery that much but I do like her creativity and sense of humor in general.

Joey Gay is clearly in because he has edgy race humor and most likely will cause a lot of trouble.

A lot of the guys had the Jay London syndrome... funny less each time I see them.

IMO there is a reason they run it immediately after all the big season ending finales. We're still in "watch TV" mode and in withdrawal despite our time shifting.

I laughed twice during this episode- once it was Chris Porter, once Josh Blue.
Joey Gay's 64 teeth creep me out, and Roz is going to get real old real fast.
But I keep telling myself they are choosing personalities for "in house" drama as much as choosing comedians.

I think it is a real disservice to viewers to only show 10 seconds of a three minute routine as pacing and rhythm is so important.

Well, comedy is subjective, so I won't tell you that you're wrong.

I liked Ralphie quite a lot. That routine he did on going to India and the elephants in the early rounds of season 1 are what got me hooked on the show.

But for my money, Dave Mordal is the one that hit my funny bone the most. His style, attitude, material, delivery. I was SHOCKED when he lost. (I told him so at the comedy club when I went to see him. :D) Getting to see him in a full 20 minute set in person was great.

Chris Porter (Willy Wonka) was the only one I noticed have the mike cut off on him. And as he said in a later clip, he hasn't done a three minute set in a long time.

I agree that Josh had to hit the CP so people would know what's going on, and my impression of him is that he's got more in the bag than just that. I'm interested in seeing what he can do. The stuff he did do I thought was hilarious - "What am I gonna be, a traffic cop?"

As for Roz, I did not care for her routine AT ALL. I don't really get into comedians whose hook is screaming all the time, but I didn't care for her material, either. And when they announced her my reaction was, "I just KNEW they were going to take her just to cause drama in the house."

I did have trpidation, too, at even setting a SP because of what they did at the end of S3 - I was surprised to even see it back, but I'm glad it is.

And so far I don't get the feeling that they will be airing a ton of stuff over and over again just to fill time (like the did with American Inventor - OMG - even their "here's some of the inventions that didn't make it" shows were showing the same people over and over again).

Hey, its enough to keep me interested over the summer!

Last night was the first time I had ever watched Last Comic Standing -- glad I did. I liked Chris Porter, laughed out loud at/with Josh Blue.

I liked Roz's material, but hated her delivery. Do not at all understand why the other 2 are in the house -- several others were far funnier.

All in all though, enjoyed some good laughs last night and will keep watching. A couple of the "comedians" were cringe-worthy, though. If this was prime seasn, though....not so much

So I'm confused.

On 6/6 did we see ALL the people that were selected to "move forward" during the 2-hour premiere?

If so - now that we have 5 finalists, what else happens?

If not - how were they split up? And when's the next episode that features an Inprov open audition to get a new crop of "semi-finalists"?

I happened to catch the girl with the lisp on her own HOUR-LONG (!) special on Canadian TV (she's from there) on Saturday night. A bit more rauchy than she was on LCS but not funny.

The people from which they picked 5 finalists were about half the people picked to move on from the premiere episode. How they split them up I'm not sure - maybe based on which audition sites they came from? I just don't know that.

There will be another 5 finalists picked tonight from the second group who moved on from episode 1.

What was that????

I think they picked the worst comics from the second night. I truly thought that the big surprise at the end of the night might be that they were going to switch the people on stage with the comedians backstage.

How did they not pick the guy who did the 'segue' jokes? That was hilarious. They even showed one of the judges doubled over in his chair laughing.

I gave it a shot, but that was the last time I watch LCS this season.

Doug was easily the best of the night. I thought he was a lock since they showed him last, showed him for the longest (at least it seemed like it) and since he's probably already the most 'successful' (he appears weekly on VH-1's Best Week Ever).

Guess not :(
