copy a backup image to small hd?

I picked up a 540040 with no hd in it.
can I restore a backup on a 2 GB hd just to see if the unit works before a
purchase a larger hd?

when I try "mfsrestore -s 127 -r -zxpi /mnt/backup.bak /dev/hdb"
I get destination drive too small.

Is there a different command I can use or is hd just too small?

You need to use at least a 40GB hard drive for the image (same as original that was in there). You can always go bigger but not smaller.
