Is there step-by-step method to doing this? I have the tivo desktop 2.2 and tivo to go. I just can't figure out the correct way to transfer my recordings to my Creative Zen. Thanks in addvance!

Right now I use the Video Converter applet in Creative Media Toolkit (which should have came with your Zen) to convert the .tivo files that I have downloaded to my computer to WMVs (the format that works on the Zen). Once that is done I add the WMVs to a Video playlist in Media Player 10 which I have configued to be automatically synced with the Zen whenever I connect it. I've only been using the Zen and TiVoToGo for a couple of weeks now but this works just great for me.

However I should warn you that you may have problems if you upgrade to the Windows Media Player 11 Beta. I did that last week and as soon as I did, I could no longer convert the .tivo files. As soon as I restored back to Media Player 10, it worked just fine again. Hopefully the final version of 11 will not have this problem, as I really liked that interface.

I am also looking forward to the next version of TiVoToGo so that I can automatically download and convert shows.

Cody:

I have been converting to my Zen with no problems, until now.

I just got a new laptop with XP Media Center 2005. It says it has a version of MP10, but it gives me the "Server threw an exception" error message. I looked at the MS knowledge base at it said that not having a compatible decoder was the case. I have had the Nvidia decoder all along. Do you think that mine is a MP issue?

Thanks.

Ray

Well, I'm not an expert on Media Player or decoders and I am not using MCE, but it could be the case. You might try running the Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=de1491ac-0ab6-4990-943d-627e6ade9fcb&DisplayLang=en) and make sure that you have an up to date decoder that is MP10 and MCE Compatible and that it is set to be the preferred decoder. I know that I got a huge boost in the quality of my converted shows after I ran this utility and then determined that I needed to upgrade the version of the decoder that I was using (InterVideo Video Decoder 7.0.27.191).

Good luck.

I tried this and the applet tells me that it is not a valid source video file.
What do you do to get it to recognize the file?

I am going crazy because I just got a new computer and everything worked fine on my old one and now I can't sync!!! (that server throwing an error message)

I don't understand that statement. The checkup utility just tells you what codecs you have installed and if the are suposedly "compatible". It won't tell you anthing about a specifc file.

You do have TivoDesktop 2.2 installed on your new MCE laptop, right? Did it come with the Nvida codec pre-installed?

This reminds me of another thread, but she was having a very different error....

I think she means the Creative Video Converter applet, not the checkup utility. I think she needs to make sure she has the latest version of the Creative software and then use that checkup utility that I linked to earlier to make sure she has an up-to-date and compatible codec. Linda, if that doesn't help, it might help us if you posted the exact error message.
