View Full Version : Tivo Call Issue - Help Needed Please

Hi all - I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction to try and resolve an issue I have with my Tivo. It has a 120Gb HD, 2.5.5a and no LAN card, just dialup. The symptoms are that the daily call will work for a few days and then start to fail. The failure messages vary and do not seem conclusive. If I make a test call it always works but if I try to force the daily call it will also fail. Only by doing a software restart of the Tivo will the daily calls then work (for the next few days). It has been like this since I bought it a few months ago and I have made no changes. The Tivo works fine apart from this. There is one other small issue come to think of it - when the Tivo is recording the red led on the front does not come on - I know it works as it comes on when making the dialup call, but never when recording ?? Any advice would be much appreciated.

You should have noticed that there is certainly an issue (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=4085182) today with the standard dial-up daily call.
I will add that, when I used dial-up there were times when it woudld fail but then work okay. Just the nature of the beast, I suspect :) I never had to restart the Tivo to get it to work, though. You have around two-week's-worth of data, so the occasional missed call would not worry me too much. Only if it was regular and prolonged would I worry :)
Not sure about your other 'red light' issue.

Hi Carl - I saw the message about the call recent issue but mine has been happening for the last few months and is consistant.

Sorry. I should have said "will have noticed...". Didn't mean that to sound heavy-handed :) Still can't help with your problem, though.

Hi,
I seem to be having the same issue.
According to my Tivo the last successful call was 14th May.
I'm only noticing now because the guide data is running out.
Not really sure what the issue is but the phone line works fine for voice calls.
If I go through the 'make test call' process and pick up the phone I can hear the Tivo doing it's thing so the connection's there and everything.
The test call always fails though at 'connecting', it consistently sits there at connecting for a good few minutes then eventually fails saying 'Failed. Number unavailable.'
I am running tivoweb and all that, if it helps in diagnosis.

my father in law is having the same issue with failed calls. any insight would be appreciated.

I've had a similar problem over the last few weeks. At first I thought it was something I'd done when I was unfaithful a while ago and had installed a Topfield due to what I thought was Tivo's increasing unreliability. When I got rid of that piece of junk and went back to the Tivo I just couldn't get it to connect at all. Eventually I tried a different phone cable and that worked (altho it still won't connect every day for some reason.) I did call Tivo about this but they 'd no idea what the problem could be and said they'd had no calls about it from other customers.
