View Full Version : Tivo Service Not Responding

I don't have my Tivo near a phone jack so I have to drag the cable across a hallway in order to get it to dial. Today, I dragged and plugged in the phone line attempting to update the Tivo. I keep getting an error message "Service not responding" no matter what phone number I use.

Is this an intermittent problem or is there something wrong that I need to contact Tivo about?

Update: The service is still "Not Responding" as of this morning.

Do you know if it is dialing out or not? Try doing a test call (it is in the menus somewhere, but I forget where exactly and am at work so I cannot check). If that does not work it could be:

1. TiVo modem went bad (places like weaknees fixes them)
2. The phone jack went bad (try plugging a phone directly into it to test)
3. The phone cord could have crimped due to all of the plugging and unplugging. Try another one if you have it.

Yes, it's dialing out because if I listen in on the line I hear it dial and I hear a carrier signal come through.

I'll try a new cord and jack and see what happens.

Check the phone line you are using since it may be defective. Connect a telephone to the line and dial a TiVo access number and see if it connects.

Also what Series TiVo unit do you have? You may have a modem failure.

I just plugged in to the phone jack of they guys next door (I'm in a dorm) and it worked with their jack. I guess something is wrong with mine.
