I have a question, I purchased a series 2 tivo from EBay last year and have been using it for about 7 months now. Today I bought a dual tuner tivo with a package deal. Will I be able to get the multi service discount? Just wondering.

Unfortunately, no (http://www.tivo.com/5.11.4.asp).

"Only monthly service-only TiVo service or TiVo Plus service subscriptions are eligible to receive the MULTI-SERVICE DISCOUNT. TiVo Package, Annual, Prepaid, and Product Lifetime Subscriptions are not eligible to receive the MULTI-SERVICE DISCOUNT. However, in accordance with the Initial Qualification and General Eligibility requirements set forth above, TiVo Package, Annual, Prepaid, and Product Lifetime Subscriptions may serve as the Qualifying Subscription."

You should be able to get the MSD on your S2 from eBay, but not the package S2DT. So, full price on the S2DT and the MSD on the S2.

TiVo Troll is wrong but references the right documents to confirm my understanding.

Go and buy it from an actual store. Get the rebate and you will purchase the unit and own it yourself, then get the multi-discount

Unless TiVo_Troll is right......

Well, isn't there a 1 year commitment on the service only plan covering the S2 from eBay which has to be fulfilled first?

True, those are some of the details I am unclear on, but it would seem to me that he isn't ending his commitment so I would think TiVo would drop the rate.

Spider1848,
Just keep an eye on your bill and TiVo should automatically drop the monthly cost of your S2 if you are eligible for the MSD. If you don't see a drop in the monthly bill, then call and inquire why you aren't eligible.

Yes; return the DT Series 2 with the package plan; buy one from a retail outlet and get both the rebate and the MSD!

IF YOU FAIL TO MEET THE SERVICE COMMITMENT BY CANCELLING YOUR SUBSCRIPTION TO THE TIVO SERVICE (OR IF TIVO TERMINATES YOUR SUBSCRIPTION TO THE TIVO SERVICE DUE TO A BREACH OF THIS AGREEMENT), YOU AGREE THAT TIVO MAY CHARGE YOU THE EARLY TERMINATION FEE AGREED TO BY YOU AT THE TIME YOU SUBSCRIBED TO THE TIVO SERVICE, AND YOU AGREE TO PAY ANY SUCH EARLY TERMINATION FEE.I don't see anything in the terms and conditions that says they would be ineligible for MSD if they have not yet reached the 12-month mark. It only says they have to stay with TiVo for the allotted time, and if they cancel or are terminated due to breach of contract they may be liable for the (currently $150) early termination fee.

I have two TiVo's I activated on the same day. One is $12.95 and the other $6.95. I have a one year commitment on both. The commitment and the price are independant.

It seems to me the only TiVo's that don't get MSD are the packages TiVo sell themselves.

Yes indeed; it's easy to see why lawyers are looked upon with derision and suspicion!

Anyway; here's what Tivo's Policies (http://www.tivo.com/1.6.2.asp#MSD) page says:

"What does it mean to be "eligible" for the Multi-Service Discount?
In order to be eligible for the discounted monthly service, all TiVo? subscriptions must be registered to the same account at tivo.com and must be dialing in/connecting from the same service address. You must also have one TiVo box paying the regular monthly service only fee of $12.95, annual, prepaid or paid in full with product lifetime service and payment made directly with TiVo (as opposed to a third party service provider such as DIRECTV), or a TiVo Package. For instance, DIRECTV DVRs with the TiVo service are ineligible to receive the MULTI-SERVICE DISCOUNT or to be a qualifying subscription. More information. (http://www.tivo.com/5.11.4.asp) While TiVo Packages are not eligible for MSD discounts, they can serve as qualifying subscriptions to allow other eligible TiVo subscriptions receive the MULTI-SERVICE DISCOUNT, excluding Product Lifetime Subscriptions. For example, if you purchase a TiVo package at $19.95/month and already have a TiVo box at the "service-only" rate of $12.95/month, we will discount your "service only" monthly fee of $12.95 to $6.95, as long as your TiVo Package box is activated. However, if you have one active TiVo box that was activated using a product lifetime subscription and you subsequently purchase a TiVo package at $19.95/month, you do NOT qualify for MSD pricing."

gonzotech is correct!

you will have whatever the bundle price is on your DT.

once you activate the DT - your S2 should drop to 6.95. if it does not then call TiVo and let them know of the error.

the year committment is simply that - keep it active for 1 year. now if you terminate before the year then it is 150$ no matter the sub price.
