Hello: I had an upgraded weaknees hard drive in my series 2 that I have had for about a year now. The last few weeks I have noticed that every so often it will "stutter" for a second but while I am watching a show I recorded. It is like I hit pause for a second and then let go, but it only happens for a second or two and then it is usually fine. Suddenly this morning it was happening non stop on any show I watched to the point where I could not even watch the show. I tried restarting the tivo but that only seemed to help for about five minutes then it started up again.
Is this a sign of the drive dying or is it something else wrong with the tivo? If I can repair it by just buying a new hard drive it would be much easier than a brand new tivo.
Thanks!

Sounds like a hard drive issue. Another weaknees Maxtor drive bites the dust!

Yes, sounds like a drive issue.
You can pop another weaknees drives into that unit and should clear things up.
I would personally keep using the TiVo until I saw a full drive failure before swaping in the new drive. However, I would make note of your season's passes now, before you lose that and have to reconstruct from memory.
Good luck!

Contact weaknees, the drive may have >1yr manufacturers warantee or crack open the case to check the make/model and visit the manufacturers website to dowload diagnostics and warantee information.

Thanks everyone. I am going to try checking the warrenty tonight. Otherwise I will be getting a seagate to replace it since they come with a five year warrenty. I just now have to find a large drive at a good deal, I am sure there will be some deal on the web sooner than later.

Last weekend, a special was running for a 400gb! Seagate for $99! Keep searching, you'll find a great deal.... hard drive prices have taken a dive recently.

I am going to be replacing the drive with a 400gb Seagate (someone from this board is nice enough to sell me an extra he had bought for just the cost of the drive).
I wanted to know if it was safe to copy my recordings over that I currently have or will damage the new drive at all.
Thanks

You should be fine, just be prepared for it being a slow process.
