View Full Version : TiVo loses signal with amplifier

I just purchased the Series 2 Dual Tuner TiVo brand DVR and had been noticing static/scan lines on many channels. Most channels seems acceptable, though a series of channels (mostly sports, ESPN->FSN) have a heavy static to them while others have intermittent scan lines that run through the picture. Connecting coax straight to the TV has a clear signal, so, after reading many posts, it seemed like installing a video signal amplifier would help out.

I bought an RCA 10 db amplifier. When I connect coax straight from the wall, to the amplifier, then straight to the TiVo, the TiVo receives the signal (though it actually gets grainier) - however when I plug the amplifier in to start getting the power boost, TiVo loses the signal and goes to the lost signal blue screen.

10 db seems to be the lowest amp I could find - I'm just wondering if anyone has any hints, since everyone's first suggestion with grainy/staticy picture is to try a 10db amp.

Thanks!

Check the Amp direct to the TV. Do you have the model number of the Amp if it is an antenna Pre-Amp cable will over-load it you need a Distribution Amp that covers 54 ... 1000MHZ.

You may actually be overloading the tuner in the TiVo with that amplifier. See if you can get one that is adjustable.

Try connecting the amp closer to where the signal comes into your home, before any splitting gets done. Then, if possible, run a single feed from the first split to the DVR.

Model # is 1824104, forum won't let me do links yet, but you can search for this model on Outpost and get the exact details.

Gain is 10db, Frequency Range 50 to 900 MHz.

Unfortunately, I'm in an apartment, so the wall is as close as I can get. I still have to get a Time Warner Cable person to come in and check the line to see if there's anything they can do, however.
