I just took my cable box off, reset the tivo, then when i discovered i couldn't use my channel button to change channels (works fine if i use the guide to go from one channel to another), I tried setting up the channels; I tried setting up the remote, resetting tivo 3x. Anyone? Please help, this is nuts!

When you "reset" the TiVo did you run new guided setup or just restart it?

In other words, if you don't tell your TiVo it no longer has a cable box, it'll keep looking for one, and won't use its own tuner.
You want it set to 'cable with no box'.

Great thread. I'm having the same problem about changing channels after the TiVo box was configured for a cable box and now it is in a room without a box. Looked at the system info and I can see that it states that is using a cable box. So I went to the 'Changing Channels' area and it asks are you still using the Motorola and I say no expecting that I would have an option here of 'None' but alas it is not here. I get a list of other cable box models. Where can you tell it 'Cable - No box'. Thanks in advance.

Re-run guided setup. That's where you can tell it that you no longer have a cable box.

Hi, Just moved my tivo into bedroom were there is no cable box or satelite. I plugged it directly into my tv. I can only watch channel 3 and it will record channel 3 too. When I try to change the channel it will show that it changed but the picture coming through is channel 3. I've tried going into messages & settings to take off cable with box but it won't give me the options. Anyone else have problems with this? How did you fix it?
Thanks for any help,
Trish

I did the re-start instead of the reset. I'm trying the reset right now and hopefully that will be the problem. Thanks for your help.

Ok, how do you fix it to read all 89 channels? At the moment it only goes up to channel 13. I've gone in the settings, channels, and it only lists those channels up to 13. I've looked under every setting and can't find how to get Tivo to recognize the other channels. I'll go and look under other postings to see if I can find something on this but if anyone knows a quick fix please tell. I feel a headache coming on.

When in Guided Set Up, you are asked to enter a Zip code and then to select your provider from a separate list. You must have selected the wrong provider. For my area there were multiple providers eg
Cablevision Extended basic vs Cablevision Digital vs Rutgers etc.

I'm in the process of reseting it and it only asked me for my zipcode not what cable provider I use. I have the series 2, does that matter?

Then I'm stumped, I also have a couple of series 2 and those options present themselves for me.
Perhaps a more experienced/knowledgeable member will respond.
