I am one of the original "early adopters" of TiVo. Bought my first one when it was over $500 just for the 14 hour unit, not counting lifetime.

Since then, I had to give TiVo up for the glory that is HDTV. I am now using two boxes:
1. Moxi (http://www.moxi.com)
2. Scientific Atlanta 8000HD

Both of these boxes completely SUCK when compared to TiVo's functionality. I miss my TiVo so much it hurts. It's true... I come to these forums everyday, in the hopes of getting the release date for the Series 3.

I don't even care about price anymore, I just want my TiVo.

I cannot wait to dump these two boxes back where they came from, and have my TiVo once again, and for good this time!

I just felt like getting this off my chest...there...I feel better now, thanks for listening.

I'm right there with you! I can't wait until the Series 3 units are released and I can get rid of my Moxi as well.

The best guess we have at a release date is early September. I'm actually hoping for a late August release, so I can have them hooked up by the time the new TV season starts. :)

Thank you for that Dan! :-) TiVo's interface is simply and by far the most intuitive and beautiful interface...I miss it so much!

I'm sittng waiting for th S3 before I buy my HDTV this summer, I don't see the point in getting one without the S3 to connect it to.

That said the romors are starting to put the S3 late in September, but Comcast are still telling me summer for their TiVo. I may end up with a Comcast TiVo instead of the TiVo TiVo. I cancelled DTV this week and upgraded to Comcast in anticipation. Got the S2DT as a stop gap. I'm still astounded how much better this combination is than the DirecTiVo.

Whatever happens I will get an HDTV before the fall season starts and a PVR to drive it. I'm just praying its going to be a TiVo.

I still find it odd that TiVo are not planning to ship ahead of the Comcast box. I think they will lose a lot of early adopters to Comcast.

Just so it's 100% clear I don't actually work for TiVo. Their only official announcement was "second half of 2006". We got the early September guess from the rules of the "Idol Speculation" contest which said that the grand prize, a series 3, would be delivered witin 4 months of the end of the contest. Which would be early September. Plus it just makes sense that they would want to get it out before the new TV season.

Anyway just wanted to clarify that. I forget sometimes that people might think I speak on behalf TiVo because I'm a moderator.

I may end up with a Comcast TiVo instead of the TiVo TiVo. Keep in mind that one big factor for the problems people have with these cable company DVRs is the hardware and underlying firmware itself. For example for Motorola DCT64xx boxes many of the problems are common across different cable companies with different DVR software on them. It wasn't until recent Motorola firmware updates that many problems went away. Tivo software will be built on top of the Motorola firmware and so still has to contend with firmware bugs/limitations so I'm not convinced they will be as reliable as anticipated. For the S3 on the other hand Tivo has control over the hardware/firmware as well.

Yep, I've been frequenting this forum long enough to know that, no worries there...

Do we know yet if it will be a "cablecard 2" TiVo by then? Also, do we know if HDMI 1.3 is in the cards for the series 3? I would guess that both these things are partly the reason for the long delay, but that's just conjecture on my part.

I'm on this bandwagon, too. I've been saving my pennies since last year for the TiVo Series 3. When it was apparent that it would be awhile, I even bought the Sony DHG unit in November (to "tide" me over). But, believe me, after going three of those units (each with a different problem), I will be very patient until the S3 arrives. I returned each Sony I had and banked the money for the S3. I will say being able to timeshift HD is WONDERFUL, and I do miss it. When the Sony worked, it was great (except for the crummy TVGOS).

I'll bet you just about anything that the Tivo Series 3 will be available before Comcast offers the Tivo service on their boxes.

I think the Comcast CSR was just feeding you a line ...

Well I'm happy to wait for the S3 through the summer but by the start of the fall season I will have bought an HDTV and will be using an HD PVR. If the S3 is out in time I will have bought one, however if it doesn't make the fall season I will get the Motorola from Comcast either with the TiVo S/W or with an upgrade to it in mind.
