serious problem

Tivo screens are responding slowly to commands. Menus load slowly and seem to stutter. Also, I can't watch live TV but I can watch recorded shows. Wassup?

Try unplug AC power, wait a minute, plug in AC power. Sometimes a reboot helps.

I did some searching on these boards. I found the self-check trick using the '57' code. Got the green screen, let the diagnostics run overnight, and in morning: all's well! Keeping my fingers crossed.

Just wondering, I was expecting a fatal hard drive failure and planning to replace the drive. First I was going to call Tivo cust service. Would they have suggested that self test?
