Hopefully this isn't a question that is asked often. If so, I apologize. I did a search, but didn't find what I was looking for. Anyway, we finally got our Tivo hooked up through our cable box. We have the one side of the splitter going to the box, and the other going directly from the wall to the Tivo. All is well. When we look at the "check the channels you recieve" page, it only checked the box (or maybe it was cable....but it was definitely only ONE) channel for the duplicate channels. For example, CBS comes through the box and through cable, so its on the list twice, but is only checked once. We found that if we left it unchecked, we were unable to select that channel from the guide (or from just switching channels). This wasn't a big deal, but we realized that if we were recording from the box tuner, we wouldn't be able to get to the cable channels (as they aren't listed in the guide, if unchecked).
Now we have BOTH channels checked (selected) so that BOTH show up in the guide. This is sort of annoying. The Tivo manual tells us to de-select one of them. Which do we de-select? If we de-select it, will Tivo still use that tuner for recording if the box is busy?
I have a feeling I'm not completely understanding what the Tivo is doing. Its like an excersise in logic. I just want it to be set up appropriately, so that both tuners work and hopefully, that we don't have to scroll through twice as many channels in the guide.
Does any of this make sense? Thanks in advance!
