This BusinessWeek article

http://www.businessweek.com/smallbiz/content/may2006/sb20060525_268860.htm?campaign_id=search

is reporting that NetFlix will have Web distribution launched by yearend. No mention of TiVo in the article. It also says that Netflix expects the web distribution market to be very small for years.

This may end up having nothing to do with TiVo and that is pretty much all the info mentioned in the article about web downloads, but I figure this is interesting TiVo news as either something TiVo may offer or as competition to whatever TiVo offers for downloads.

Hope you don't have Comcast. See the article in "the dog" section in this month's Maximum PC. Comcast has download limit (but they can't tell you what it is), but if you exceed the limit (that you don't know what it is), they'll cut your service off.

I think some TW Road Runner (varies by market) also have the "undisclosed" limit.

I've downloaded probably more than 20 GB per month with Comcast and haven't had any problems.

In a conference call about 6 months ago they very specifically said the deal with TiVo was dead, though TiVo hasn't commented. (Though the situation could be different now.) They said they weren't able to work out deals with the studios. Link (http://www.zatznotfunny.com/2005-10/studios-shun-netflix-no-downloads/)

Perhaps that's why they've been buying up the rights to independent films. The current count is 90+. (TiVo's one movie trial was also a small film, the import Red Trousers.) Link (http://www.hackingnetflix.com/2006/04/netflix_quietly.html)

And last but not least, almost one year ago the Netflix site leaked what appeared to be a software player of some sort. Link (http://www.hackingnetflix.com/netflix/2005/07/glitch_exposes_.html)

The "limit" is extemely high and an 99.9% of all users will never even come close. The only people I ever hear exceeding the limit are the ones download hundreds of GBs per months.

I remember this. I also think I remember seeing a post claiming that even though that deal was cancelled there were still some talks going on between the companies.
