Purchased Tivo Box, registered, etc.
Now, how do we set this thing up with our video camera to provide athlete feedback as follows:
Video camera on a tripod on pool deck.
Records (on Tivo?) 20-30 seconds of action by athlete
Then after a 5-10 second delay, it is replayed so the athlete can see what they just did.

I know that there are many sport clubs that use Tivo this way -- HELP!

Hit pause on live TV for 10 seconds then press play again. Playback will be about 11 seconds behind live that way.

Too keep the whole recording, set up a record by time or channel recording for the duration of the meet. When the TiVo starts recording go into now playing and start playing the show as it records. Fast forward until you are about 10 seconds behind real-time.

Dear Curious Mark --

Can this be set up so that there does not need to be a person there "manning" the remote? So that it will just continuously perform the 20-30 second record/10 sec delay/20-30 second feed back?

No, there is no way for the machine to know when the performance starts and stops. Just do what CM said: have it continuously record, playback the "show" that is recording using FF and REW to get the delay you want, and the playback will always be 10 seconds (or whatever delay you choose) behind real time. Once it is going this way, nobody needs to touch the remote.

What ChuckyBox just said!

It sounds like you shoud get the TiVo and get used to it yourself for a few days beforehand. Once you are familiar with how it works this becomes completely obvious. Actually the hard part is setting it up to take input from the camera. The delay is the easy part. Because you aren't asking about that, I gather you haven't tried connecting a camera to it yet. You should do it all beforehand, a trial run at home at least a day before the meet. Trying to figure this out on-site at the last minute will be a disaster.

I have never tried to connect a camera, so I am not sure how to do that part, but I am sure others here have and can chime in with the details on how to do a guided setup that will make that part easy too.

edit: Don't think of it as a delay loop. It is a linear recording that is being played back with a delay. The delay is just very short, it is 10 seconds instead of the next day.
