View Full Version : Help me solve a likely cabling issue

All right gang, it's been six months, so that means it's time for another DTV hardware failure.

A few weeks ago, I started to get the dreaded "searching for satellite" message on my dual-tuner DTV Tivo unit. A bit of investigating told me that the problem is not with the receiver (that was my problem last year), nor are there any cabling issues from the receiver to the wall.

So I went outside and took a look around at the cabling that runs into the house. I've got a spiderweb of coax on the side of my house where the lines enter the building. I didn't see anything obvious (loose connections or anything like that). But here's where my expertise ends.

I know very little about the satellite connections or the multiswitch; and I don't really have easy access to either. I would need to scramble around on top of my two-story roof.

So what's next? Does this situation sound familiar to anyone? Does it sound like a multiswitch issue? Did I leave out any details?

Thanks!

Josh

What dish do you have? What additional multiswitch is in use.

The cabling may look fine externally, but there may be some corrosion inside one or more connections. Check the ground block connections, if you have one.

I have a dual LNB round dish. I also use a second dish to receive local channels.

And I really don't know what sort of multiswitch is in use. It's the one supplied by Best Buy when I initially purchased all the other equipment. The only one listed on their site is a Zinwell SAM-6802, but I have no idea if this is what they were sending out 18 months ago.

Man, only 18 months of service, and this is my THIRD major hardware problem I have experienced. That rules.

If you have a dish to receive your locals from the 72.5 sat then the switch is most likely the 6802. Where is this switch located? If it is outside, you most likely have some corrosion on one or more of the connections.
