If you record and watch 'The Daily Show' with Jon Stewart on Comedy Central, I have a question…

Are you seeing pixelizations and digital glitches during the show?

For the past few weeks, I have been seeing these digital glitches/pixelization issues only during the daily show. I record the 10PM Central version and I am located in Arkansas.

I checked signal strength and it hovers between 80 and 95 percent depending on channel. My line of sight is clear with no trees and there has not been any thunderstorms during the time of the show.

I have rebooted the machine a few times both soft (three thumbs down and enter) and hard (unplug for a few minutes.) Nothing seems to help.

At first, I was thinking it might be a hard drive going bad. Then I remembered, a couple of months ago, having one of the tuners lock up on me. Could it be that one of the tuners is going bad?

I welcome your comments and suggestions. Thanks!

Joe

I haven't noticed that, but I do get what I think is a sound compresssion sometime during the opening song and applause. Which makes zero sense--it can't hog that much bandwidth.

I do not get video pixelization during the same airing of the show, but I do notice the audio compression.

The pixelization is probably an indication of a dish that is slightly out of alignment. The bad audio is definitely an indication of over-compression by DirecTV.

If it were a dish alignment issue, wouldn't I have the same problem on all channels... and all the time? Again, the signal strength is running from 80 to 95 percent. And the sat. dish has good clear view of the sky. :(

I see the same problems, but ONLY on the Daily Show or South Park. Sometimes it's bad enough I just delete the show and wait for it to re-record. I record other Comedy Central shows from time to time but they do not have the problem. I've had my series 1 (DSR6000) for 4.5 years.. (I've upgraded the HD sometime in the last two years). I also >never< have this problem on any other shows on any other networks.

I always assumed that Comedy Central wasn't paying Directv enough $$$ to avoid compression artifacts since it only happened on this channel..
