OK I have a Series 2 Standalone Tivo but I would like to add another tivo in another room. I have directv and had some questions about getting an directv tivo box.
Can I buy a directv tivo box on ebay and call directv to activated the box?
If I buy 2 directv tivo boxes how much would directv charge me? Someone who has directv tivo boxes told me that its a flat fee of $4.99 a month and it don't matter how many directv tivo boxes you have installed.
Thanks

You can buy from ebay, There have been some people reporting that they have had some problems with them having outstanding balances.
You would have to pay a DVR fee that covers all the dvr's on you D* account (I think that rate went up recently but only gets changed for existing customers when they add more units.), You also have to pay a mirroring fee for each unit (DVR or NON DVR) beyond your first one.

I have bought and activated over 19 Tivo DVR's off ebay without any problems. The chance is slim to none you'll get one with an outstanding balance.
DVR fee is now $5.99 which covers all Tivo receivers or other DVR's, and a $4.99 mirroring fee applies to all receivers (DVR's or standard IRD's). For new receivers, this may be a lease fee instead of a mirroring fee.
Hope this helps.
