I have my DirecTivo set to play/record shows in digital if they are broadcast that way. I just tested a movie I have recorded and my A/V receiver says its playing in digital sound. But when I play any of the couple Sopranos episodes I have recorded, they are not coming through in digital. It says at the opening of the show that its "broadcast in Dolby Digital 5.1 where available". Why isn't it playing in digital?

Are you recording the HD feed? Just because it SAYS it's HD, doesn't necessarily mean that D* are transmitting it that way. Maybe D* only thinks that it needs to send the 5.1 feed on the HD channel?

I record The Sopranos on HBOW (504) and I do get it in DD 5.1 surround. I have checked this a few times to make sure. I believe that HBO2 and HB2W are not broadcast in 5.1, so you want to verify which channel you are recording it on.

Before I got my HD TiVo, I was recording on regular HBO (or HBOW when I had a conflict) on my R10, and it was indeed 5.1 DD.

Pretty sure both HBO and HBOW have it in 5.1, but for some reason HBO2 (and HBO2W) don't.

HBO HD definately does have 5.1 DD.

The opening "previously on the Soprano's" isn't in 5.1 though.

I seem to recall that airings that weren't on the 2 main HBO channels, HBO & HBO-W, weren't in DD5.1.

No, its not the HD feed...I don't have an HD box. But that shouldn't matter, I get some HBO movies with digital sound. In fact I have The Conspiracy Theory on my Tivo right now and when I play it its in 5.1.

As for the Sopranos, I record/watch it on channel 501, so it should be digital...but its not. I've gotten previous episoded to record in 5.1.
