Hey

I jusy purchased a Sony STRDG500 6.1 http://www.abtelectronics.com/images/products/BDP_Images/big_strdg500.jpg

receiver for my home theater setup. I also have a Directivo unit (Samsung SIR S4120R).

I was wanting to program the tivo peanut remote so that it would control the Sony A/V System volume. When I go to Directv setup to program the remote it lists a number of Sony codes to try. The first one is 1005. However, the unit does not accept this code (doesn't blink after I enter the code, the light just goes out). I tried all the other codes and they were accepted but didn't control the receiver. I also tried the automatic search for code but had no luck.

I was wondering if anyone had any idea why this 1005 code was not accepted? Since it was the first one listed I would sure like to try it in case that is the correct one. Or if anyone knows where I can find other codes for Sony receivers to try?

I had a similar problem a while back...it has something to do with there being A and B code channels and the Sony is set to B by default. Check the Sony manual on how to set it to the other channel and it should work.

Okay, AV1 and AV2, not A and B. But still the same answer.

Hey, thanks so much for the info! The remotecentral site didn't list my receiver specifically and the user manual doesn't mention AV1 or AV2, but I'll try the procedures tonight and see if they work. Thanks!

Doublecheck that manual. It was in MY Sony receiver's manual, but IIRC it was kind of like an afterthought. I had to come here to get straightened out on it (thread's probably in the archive somewhere).

Many new codes have been added to the on-screen menu, I would bet that code 1005 is for receivers set to AV2. But probably the only remotes with these new codes are included with DT SA tivo and the S3 upcoming SA tivo.

Yes, all the directions Ron Aronson have posted in that thread at RC, have come from posted manuals.

It worked. I was able to switch to AV1 on the receiver and then the DVR accepted the codes so I can control the receiver's volume and power thru the DVR peanut remote.

However, when in AV1, the original Sony remote won't work on the receiver. None of the buttons or functions work until I go back and switch it back to AV2. Which, of course, disables the DVR remote again. Truly a vicious circle.

Is there a workaround for this because that doesn't seem right.

You have to change the code on the receiver and the remote. Some Sony remotes can't be changed. There are various methods listed on the link I gave you for changing Sony remote codes.

Thanks. Unfortunately it looks like my Sony remote can't be changed. :(
