CBS was probably the least surprising, since they gave early pickups to half their schedule. Looks like if you like the shows on CBS this year, you'll like the shows on CBS next year, because they're pretty much one in the same. :)

At first, I was thinking the same exact thing. THEN REALITY HIT:
1) It's going up against the Sunday night game on NBC (may or may not be a big deal depending on who's playing).
2) (and this is what's going to suck), when football runs late, that entire Sunday night line-up on CBS is going to shift...ask those of us who pad Cold Case by an hour how much of a pain that is! Now I have to do it with THREE shows (Race, Case, & Trace - there's a catchy marketing ploy!) as opposed to just one!

If this is an issue, pad Cold Case with 1 hour before and 3 hours after, this should let you get all 3 with one recording.

Good idea...but then I lock up all that space with one recording. Hate doing that, but on those days CBS has a late game in my market, it may be the best solution. But it does screw up my west coast feed recordings of the Fox Sunday night line-up. Dang!

Amazing Race going to Sundays at 8 will be a problem for those who Tivo it and watch later. Every time CBS has a 4:15 football game, it runs late pushing 60 Minutes and Cold Case back. I stopped watching Cold Case during the football season because of that.
So come fall if there is a late game on CBS, make sure you pad at least a 1/2 for Race.

Record Race and Case as normal and then just put the extra padding on Trace. If the game runs long, each recording won't necessarily have the right show, but as long as you watch them in order, you'll be OK---and you can delete the earlier ones when you're done with them.

True. That's exactly what I did this past Monday for CBS and the pres address. I just padded CSI: Miami with a half hour. And each recording had 10 minutes of the show it was supposed to be and the next show had the remaining 20 minutes. Made it a pain for MRV, but not a biggie.

I love this move too, provided they can figure out the scheduling with football. It's the type of show that families can watch together and the early slot on Sunday night is a perfect time for that. I think it will work very well, especially for the second season in the spring.
I like that WAT is moving to Sunday night. I currently don't watch anything in that timeslot and I have too many shows on Thursday night so I'm a whole season behind. Hopefully I'll get caught up on WAT this summer and then I can stay up to speed with it playing on Sunday nights.

Boo! This is going to create havoc with my scheduling during football season. If Amazing Race bleeds over to the 9PM block, which it will do often Sept-Dec, then I'm going to have to do some shuffling between DH, and Family Guy (assuming it stays at 9PM Sunday). Looks like I'm going to be be watching DH off my second Tivo (and crappy TV) a lot those months.
Edit: Forgot about NBC SNF too!!! At least that I can watch live on my basic cable feed and let the other shows record. Actually, I'd only watch SNF if the Giants are on it (yes, they are the first week against Indy), so that shouldn't be too big an issue. I'm a Giants fan 1st, football fan 4th. Really don't care about the other games unless they affect the Giants.

I always thought it was because of 60 Minutes and their insistence of showing it for..ummm..60 minutes during football season. What they SHOULD do is what Fox does, block out the time until 7:30 for football, move 60 minutes back 30 minutes and put a sitcom in the 8:30 slot. Then they are ok from 9-11.

Except even with as lackluster as the writing was, the ratings remained solid throughout the season. I'm pretty sure it won it's timeslot almost every time, if not every time.

Yah, that's exactly it. They don't want to break up the 60 minutes tradition on Sunday nights.
It's obvious that there should be no 7:00 to 7:30 show, but they can't change it.

Smith - it might be Mission: Impossible for theives, but we'll see

Shark - don't we have enough legal dramas? Is the redemption angle enough?
I was at the upfront today.
The Class looked really funny. The 3rd grade is significant because that's where the guy met his fiance. He got everybody together as some sort of surprise. I guess the rest of the show is about the newfound relationships from this little reunion. It looked like a great match for How I Met Your Mother.
Smith looked pretty good. Ray Liotta is good at playing a bad guy you can root for.
I'm up in the air about Jericho. It looks like it can be different, but I need to see a few episodes to see what they do with it.
If it weren't for James Woods, Shark would be lame. Just another court drama, but the little twist and James Woods may make it watchable.
Overall everything new looked at least decent. However the schedule is basically:
Monday 8-10P - Comedies
Monday 10P through Sunday - Crime shows + Survivor and Amazing Race

Earlier descriptions of the show I read implied that it wasn't just an isolated nuclear event that affected a single town/region, but rather part a larger nuclear attack on major US cities. One season could focus on the immediate aftermath of the attack, the next on life after in a semi post-apocalyptic American society.
Spoilers already, and the show hasn't even launched yet!

I guess since it's sort of a spoiler, I'll spoilerize it, but this should all be in the pilot episode...
There were at least 2 attacks seen and few more mentioned in the clips. The story basically starts in this remote town with a mushroom cloud that appears in the distance and takes out all their power and communications. Another mushroom cloud is seen in the distance later. Somehow they find out there have been even more attacks elsewhere in at least a couple major cities. Eventually the town is under the impression that they may be one of the few towns left in America.

To me, this was the most interesting of the new shows, but I always like shows that are different (not a big fan of all the crime/legal shows). But this does sound like it was attempted before. I recall a Stepehn King series called "The Stand" which had a similar premise. It was on about 10 years ago. And of course there was the famous movie "The Day After" I think it was called with Jason Robards that came out in the 1980s, which interestingly enough, took place in Kansas. I'll most definitely watch this one, but my gut tells me that it will be a short timer.

"The Stand" was not a regular series, but was a 4-part miniseries. It also was premised on a disease that killed off nearly everyone in the country, not a nuclear attack. While "The Day After" was about the aftermath of a nuclear attack, it was also a mini-series, and I think it was just two parts. I don't believe the concept has ever been tried as an actual series, although it seems to be about 20 years too late.

The Stand was based after a worldwide "Super Flu" pandemic. Very much ahead of the curve. It also focused on little things like the final battle battle of good and evil :) . One aspect of the Stand(book) was how it, through vignettes, showed the breakdown of society, for example after the flu got everyone, you survived, say you slipped and fell coming out of the shower, broke your hip/leg and basically starved to death on the floor by the toilet. Many more people died after the flu because the system collapsed.
We now return you to your "upbeat" thread already in progress...
