Oh my goodness...

What were the writers of this show thinking!?! Just when I was starting to come to terms with the loss of Kate, they go and get rid of the show's main character!! I can honestly not ever remember feeling so strongly about a show, but this ending just makes me mad. Please tell me Gibbs will be back as the head of the team!! Rediculous, I tell you... I need some time to gather my thoughts. Geez

If he doesn't come back, it will be cancelled pretty quick.

Oh, you forgot **Spoilers**,
much of the country hasn't seen it yet

I cheated and watched the East Coast feed as I was recording it for playback here.

It's going to be a long summer!! I'm thinking he will be back. They will have to come up with something big in the first show back that will draw him back in. Someone will have to go get him though, because there's no phone, tv, or news.

He'll be back. Don't worry about that.

I really enjoy this show. **spoiler I hiope Mark Harmon isn't leaving for good***. I'm sure he'll be back. I thought the episode was really good though. I need to watch the first season. It's coming out on DVD June 6th!!

"Hiatus" means "an interruption in time or continuity"...like his memory...

Nope, he didn't. If he's posting on a thread about today's show, he can discuss anything about that episode. The title sayd "SPOILERS." If somebody hasn't seen it, and reads the thread it's their fault.

Since Harmon was doing the talk show circuit hyping the finale, I doubt that Jethro is gone forever.

You know, Bellisario is known to do these things.

Take his previous series, JAG. The main character, Harmon Rabb has left JAG once in season 5-6 (joined a carrier squadron), and was mostly absent for most of the last season of JAG (DJE signed with ABC - btw, how's he doing? I never watch ABC). Heck, the Admiral left too.

We'll see Gibbs doing stuff and relaxing, he just wouldn't be so "major" a charactor next season. Then something will happen (either to NCIS or Gibbs) to make him return.

I'm sure Quantum Leap had similar things happen.

See my post in the thread on "Hiatus" part 1 for comments from Bellasario (properly spoiler-tagged):

It was a great episode, but Gibbs will have to come back. Tony's character just can't hold the show. I loved the hit on the back of the head bringing everything back.

Did the last scene with Gibbs and his old boss remind anyone else of the last scene of Shawshank Redemption?

Now that you mentioned it, it does. But for whatever reason that hasn't occurred to me.

On another board someone said they caught him on a talk show and he mentioned he had to be back for filming in July so he'll be there in some capacity if he has to return for filming :)

Great episode!

I like how they brought in his first partner and you saw the probie Gibbs flashbacks.

I do hope Harmon will be back, but, I agree they will have to send someone down to get him.

It will probably end up with Jenny putting him in for medical leave instead of resigning.

He edited the title and added the "SPOILERS" after I reminded him. ;)

The title did NOT need to include the word "spoilers"; that's implicit because the title identified a specific episode.

NCIS without Gibbs would be like Stargate SG-1 without Jack O'Neill.

Stargate SG-1 seems to be doing OK with Ben Browder replacing Richard Dean Anderson.

NCIS without Gibbs would be like House without, well, House! Or 24 without Jack Bauer. Or CSI: Miami without Horatio Caine (despite a lot of fans rooting for H's demise).

"Hiatus" means "an interruption in time or continuity"...like his memory...Or like when a show goes on hiatus until the fall season!

When John Wayne (as Chance in Hellfighters!) said "You'll do" I'm sure he could never have imagined it being used for a DiNozzo-like person.

It's not at all the same, losing Kate vs. losing Gibbs.

As said in the thread for part 1, Gibbs, Ducky and Abby are the heart of the show, and losing one of those three will strike a severe blow to the chemistry of the ensemble.

(Stargate SG-1 hijack portion of message deleted)

CBS said something perviously about "the last person who comes to the table" - and that was Abby. Its possible that something will happen to Abby forcing Gibbs out of retirement. Although I hope nothing serious happens to her- I really like her character.
I hated that Bellasario (sp) brought his REAL brother (aka Mikey from JAG) to play someone who wanted to hurt Abby.

Any thoughts?

Talk about a ratings killer if that were to happen. Hell, I don't watch the show for Abby, but I would stop watching if she left. The cast is good, they mesh, the chemistry on screen is freakin' great, they need to leave it alone for Gods sake.

I totally agree with you.. but I was absolutely shocked when they killed Kate!
Just goes to show you that there are people out there that can screw up a good thing! lol

Well, to be fair, Kate's exit was Sasha's own choice. And I do think Ziva has been a good addition to the show. (Although the idioms are getting old.)

I really hope you are wrong. They've offed Gibbs' wife and daughter, they've killed Kate, they've done "Abby in peril" and "Jenny in peril" episodes already.

Beisdes if they take Abby out, we won't have Pauley Perrette's NCIS blog (http://www.cbs.com/primetime/ncis/blog.php) anymore.

That would be no fun at all.

I love her blog...and your name (heavensto - murgatroyd) lol I really hope they all stay. I didnt realize it was Sasha's choice to leave - grrrrr;
As for the Ziva-ism's yea they're getting old too.

I think some of my fav parts of the show is when they reference other DB shows (Magnum, QuantumLeap, etc.) BUT especially when they asked what a young Duckie looked like!! For an old TV geek that was priceless!

thanx all for the hope that no-one will leave!

Gibbs certainly makes the show, I hope he's not gone in any capacity next year. Kate was a good character and I hated to see her leave, but she wasn't the leader.

Gibbs is the star of the show. There is absolutely no indication of any health issue or contract dispute with the star. Obviously he could want to leave the show and we might not know. Gibbs didn't leave due to any health issues.

I agree, it's similar to when Rabb left JAG. I think the questions are--How many episodes will Gibbs be away from NCIS? Will his former partner come back with him? What will cause him to return? Will it be a national emergency? Will one of or more of the team be in peril and need his help? Gibbs already told Ziva something like he owes her.

It's even plausible the new season will start with Gibbs coming back from a 3 month summer medical leave of absence.

There'd be more suspense if character like Abbey left.
