Net Xfer of non-service TiVo?

My situation is this: 2 Tivo's currently and considering a large DT from WeakNees to replace the 2nd low-hour unit. I have a wireless home network and occasionally use TiVo Desktop to Xfer shows between boxes. Would I be able to eliminate service on the low-hour box and still have the ability to use it for network xfer & storage, or would I lose that ability due to it not being on the TiVo service.

You would lose the ability. If it's not subscribed, it is a doorstop.
