So Ted and Robin FINALLY get it on. :p And Marshall and Lily break up. :( And Fred knows how to do a rain dance! :D Now we have Fred and Wesley on the same show yet again. It's funny how these Joss Whedon people always show back up and they are always in packs! :)

So Ted and Robin FINALLY get it on.Did you get that kids? This is how I got into your Aunt Robin's pants. ;)
Maybe we can agree that Mom has passed away. I'm not sure if she'd want her husband waxing nostalgiac on his former conquests if she's still around, even if she does OK these stories for her kids to hear.
As for the show, I've been rooting for Ted and Robin to get together for a while, but all of the stunts Ted pulled in this episode to sweep her off her feet seemed contrived and forced. I don't know why but I just wasn't as impressed as I was at other attempts he made for her.
Overall, this was a season finale that didn't have that season finale punch that so many shows seem to go for, as this one attempted. I'll definately be watching next season but there's no urgency to see what next season's premiere will hold.

I wonder what they will do with Robin and Ted. Did the writers figure they had to write this in so that they could date for a while, break up and be done once and for all?
What is up with Lilly and Marshal?
I agree that they can never really meet the mother until maybe the last few episodes now, it would just kill the show.

I agree that they can never really meet the mother until maybe the last few episodes now, it would just kill the show.If they wanted to, we could end up never meeting the mother. The final episode would end on Ted asking the kids "Now what was I trying to tell you? You shouldn't let me ramble on like that" (or some similar variation.)
A whole mess of pointless stories and he never does remember to tell them how he met their mother. :D

Or the reason everyone has been searching for as to why he's sitting the kids down and telling them all this (and why the kids are willing to listen) is because either the mother has passed or they have divorced and Ted is explaining to them why he and their Aunt Robin are now dating.

Nobody has opined that Ted never married, the kids are adopted and the story is how he met their birth mother?

No, Sorry, the correct pecking order is Allyson, the Cobie then anyone else on that show. No one is prettier there than AH. Not even the yummie Cobie and not Amy.

Do we know for sure that they are his kids? I feel like I've asked that before. He never says son or daughter, he says kids.
Wow, amy acker is even cuter than huntress' voice would indicate.

I was trying to think about this. He could be talking to Robins sisters kids. (I don't remember if they said she had any sisters) I hate that this whole story seems like it will end without robin and Ted getting married. I wonder if the wedding scene from last week was him really getting married in the future or he was just thinking about it. And that don't mean that there isn't more then one wife. cause you know they die/get divorced.

The kids being from a relative of Robin's is something I never thought of. I wonder if the producres even have given their somewhat public lament that they had boxed themselves into a corner and that Ted and Robin had much better chemistry than they expected. That explanation would tie it all together nicely.

Yeah I knew the speech was coming but didn't think it was an issue because I saw Prison break and 24 were adjusted...I thought this would be too...well I guess it is true what they say about assuming

Let's put it this way, if the kids he's talking to are NOT HIS, then I'll feel I was made a fool of. I think, the assumption is there that he's talking to HIS kids. Yes, I can see all these scenarios, and they do make sense, but it's the type of deception I don't want in my comedies. Not to mention that going through this whole story about he meets Robin and dates her, etc., doesn't seem to be telling the story of how he met their mother.
And I disagree with the whole premise that once we "meet" their mother the story has to end. I think they can tell the story up until they get married and it's still plausable.

They appeared on the show Angel (Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin off) together. Wesley is the anchorman and Fred was the rain dance girl.

If it were what happened, why would you feel deceived? Perhaps you simply inferred too much into what is said and made all kinds of assumptions not based on anything that was actually said or done in the show.
I am not saying it is the case, but seeing how it has gone, I could see it as plausible, and I can't remember any discussions that refute. I also don't think they ever got cute with language just in order to trick the audience.
If he has always just referred to them as kids and talked about meeting their Aunt Robin and all of that, what would make you think they were his kids?
Actually scratch that, that is dumb.. the name of the show is How I met your Mother... but that still doesn't make them his kids. It just means he knows the kids mother. It does not mean he dated her, married her or anything else.
I don't know.. what difference does it really make in the scheme of things... The narrative and kids are of a very insignificant impact to the quality of the entire show and frankly the show would be fine without it.

Ah, ok, I just didn't get the reference!!
I know this happens a lot, but might be helpful that when referencing actors that appeared in characters in other shows, just say, Wesley and Fred (from Angel). I was scratching my head wondering if I was missing a character or two on HIMYM!!

I would bet, that is you asked most viewers, they have the assumption that Bob Saget IS the father of the kids. I think I need to see the pilot again to see if there were any references to them being HIS kids, but I could see your point, that I might have made an incorrect assumption.
I am not saying it is the case, but seeing how it has gone, I could see it as plausible, and I can't remember any discussions that refute. I also don't think they ever got cute with language just in order to trick the audience.

Again, I should probably re-watch some of the older episodes (I hate repeats of current shows), but I do believe some of the wording lead me to believe that it was his kids. Especially in the early shows when they actually showed the kids. My opinion is, that was the original intention, that Saget was the kids father, but when they realized that there was such chemistry between Robin and Ted, and fans were clamoring for them to get together, they changed it the scope.
I don't know.. what difference does it really make in the scheme of things... The narrative and kids are of a very insignificant impact to the quality of the entire show and frankly the show would be fine without it.
I actually do think the narrative and the kids are important to keep the stories in context. If the show had a different name, I would agree, the show would be just as good and we wouldn't be having this conversation, but since the show is what it is, the narrative sets up the storyline of meeting mom.

I only got the first 10 minutes also! I had checked several times earlier in the day and everything I saw had only Fox actually showing the speech. Damn you Mr. President, you and your fake concerns about border security! If you were so concerned, after speaking previously about hiring 2,000 new border guards, why did you cut funding so that only 200 could be hired?
"Want to stop illegal immigration? Allow illegals to come to the US, but they have to join the US military. Then declare war on Mexico and send in the troops, and then don't have an exit strategy (you're good at that) so that they now have to stay back in Mexico!" - From today's Opie and Anthony show on XM.

While I tend to agree with you, we should probably refrain from making political commentary in this thread.
In actuallity, it was either CBS or whoever updates these online guides who are at fault, not the Prez (and we have plenty of OTHER things to blame him about!!). The other networks had fixed their schedules in advance to account for the speech. Me personally, I don't trust any of them. I padded all the shows I watched that night to make sure I got them. Luckily I had no confilicts :)

I don't know how I'd feel about him not being the father, I just was hoping someone would disprove it. I tend to have bad memory and assumed that at some point in the past it was decidedly stated, sort of like how in the first episodes he called robin aunt robin.
It would be a betrayal, but it could be used to great advanage. I'm picturing a series finale where Ted has to choose between their mother and robin, and the big twist is that he chooses robin and is talking to his nephew/niece the whole time.

I did a quick check of my local affiliate's Web site and saw that they were going to push.
I ended up missing DoND as a result of all the shifting (or, rather, as a result of ABC not shifting along with everyone else), but that's no big deal (or no deal)...

How many of you are going to try the "PAUSE" tactic next time?
Was anyone else kind of put off by the Red Lobster scene?
"There's nothing I love more than eating at Red Lobster"
"Yeah, this is the sweetest butter sauce and most succulent lobster I've ever tasted"
"Mmm, Red lobster is the happiest place on Earth!"
Followed immediately by:
"How I Met Your Mother.... Brought to you by Red Lobster"
I guess that's what we get for fast forwarding through commercials.

No kidding, really? Wow, I missed that.
Meanwhile, all of us real New Yorkers are laughing at Marshall and Lily since Red Lobster is the Olive Garden of the seafood world. The only Red Lobster in Manhattan is right off of Times Square, so... nuff said.
That was like Michael Scott of The Office coming to New York and getting an "authentic NYC slice of pizza" at Sbarros, only they actually live in Manhattan, so they really should know better.

As long as you don't go horseback riding on the beach without a saddle (or a urologist nearby).

Well, I'm assuming some money changed hands aside from the pizza, but I was also wondering how you would get someone to agree to paint their violin, viola or cello blue.

This is true, Matthew Perry was in a show called Sydney with Valerie Bertinelli. In the pilot, he was drooling all over her. Then she was his sister. It was weird.

Well he also said the Lily was their Aunt, Marshall was their Uncle, as was Barney.
It seems pretty unlikely that they are all the kids actual Aunts and Uncles :).
But after rewatching the beginning of the pilot it is clear that he is in fact their father.
