I have a R10, never really used my tivo when we first got Direct TV, but have been using it alot lately. My question is this, the video on my Tivo box, can I hook up my computer to the tivo box via the USB's on the back and burn that video? What kind of files would they be output as? Sorry if this is newbie stuff. Havent really played with the box yet and instead of experimenting, just thought Id throw up a post. Thanks.

Nope, can't be done with R10. Unhackable unless you're willing to pull and solder prom chips on mother board.

You can hookup at standalone DVD burner through the RCA jacks and 'record to VCR' from the R10.

Cannot be done with any of the DTivos out of the box. But you can hack them (not the R10 though without a PROM mod) to do this.

The type of networking won't matter with a R10, it flat won't work. Only the Series 1 and Series 2 DTivo units are hackable through software.

the R10 is hackable after a Prom mod (the act of desoldering a chip off the motherboard and then soldering a reprogramed one on to it). But your statement if only through software is true.
