I'm surprised to see only NBC and Fox carrying it. ABC and CBS have an Oprah Winfrey special and King of Queens, respectively. Odd. Just a mix up with the TV guide, perhaps?

That may be what is currently on the electronic guide. But, they specifically said on GMA today that ABC would be carrying the speech.

If it's true, I'd be shocked.

I have always thought that only one network should carry it and if you actually wanted to watch it, you could on that one channel. I mean what's the point of all four carrying it. Then they could rotate. That would minimize the disruptions to the other networks schedules. Just an idea that I'm sure will never happen. Now I have to remember to go home and try to figure out how to get the shows I want recorded.

I think they all carry it because some stations aren't receivable by some homes with only OTA antennas.

Uh... they have precluded all shows for the address. Just heard Oprah on the radio saying she has rescheduled the Legends Ball for next Monday.

I don't know why all the networks have to have an hour to show the Presidential Address. It's the same as it's always been, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Are there people who have forgotten?

Are there people who have forgotten?Oh Ereth, this is just silly talk. The Presidential address tonight is only 20 minutes long, not one hour. But the President has to use small words to give out the address, and the word "Pennsylvania" tends to throw him for a loop, what with having that weird "y" placed smack dab in the middle of it.

Also, I believe the address will be given out in English, Spanish, and through interpretive dance, thanks to a partnership with Coca-Cola and Cirque Du Soleil.

Don't forget Garrett Morris translating for the hard of hearing.

LOL, I just noticed this discussion about network policy has accidentally been moved to TV Talk. :D

No matter ones ideology or take on any certain issues, a Presedential Address to the nation is far more important that any TV show that you would have Tivo-d anyway.

I watch all of them - no matter who is in the office.

I'd rather watch Steven Colbert give the presidential address.

Thread #7!
There have been 6 other threads about networks not playing the presidential address?

I thought that if it were true, it would be quite an interesting trend and wanted to discuss who would be for/against it. It seems no one ever watches the address and they gripe about it.

I thought it would make for some interesting Monday discussion, but it's been sent to TV Talk where it doesn't belong.

No, there have been 7 threads discussing the presidential address (including this one), which is somewhat foolish, because information that could be helpful to people trying to schedule their shows could show up in one and not another.

I've never found anything that W said to be very important.

ABC's Web site indicates three hours of Grey's Anatomy...first hour is rerun of last night, then the two-hour season finale. No Oprah (thank goodness).

I posted this very same warning message on Saturday and the moderator saw fit to delete it... I think such warnings should be allowed! Without them there might be nothing playing in your "Now Playing"!

Anyone else agree?

And yes, I know there is a another group for these posts, but many people probably don't venture over there. I usually bounce between this group and Tivo Coffee House.

Again - my post was related to why the networks carry the address as opposed to regular programming - not to start an unwanted dialogue about someones feelings of the President.

No matter ones ideology or take on any certain issues, a Presedential Address to the nation is far more important that any TV show that you would have Tivo-d anyway.

This is exactly what I was about to say. Anyone who feels that fictional television is more important than government and current events needs to have their right to vote taken away before they write in Jed Bartlet in the next election. Additionally, all the major networks will carry it in addition to the cable news channels because it is news. It is the President of the United States addressing our nation. There is a reason they are holding it in prime time.

And in the grand scheme, it is only one hour. You are not going to die because Oprah's primetime display of celebrity fellatio has to be delayed.

Celebrity fellatio? Who are the female stars?

Oh for goodness sakes, how many threads do we need on this subject?

The proper one is in Season Pass Alerts, which will give you an idea of conflicts and schedule changes. On a forum that doesn't allow the discussion of politics, (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=161919) that is the ONLY place it needs to be.
