I am still waiting for the 3.5 update for my series one Philips DSR6000. Should I be worried yet or is the update still being pushed out?

You should have the upgrade allready.

If you do not have it, read below:

To get upgrade
Upgrade has 2 parts:
First part takes 1 hour. It automatically occurs about 2 AM PT.
Second part is the TiVo daily call, It also occurs automatically.
Keep receiver plugged in.
Keep phone line connected.
After TiVo daily call, upgrade automatically occurs within 24 hours.
Either wait for TiVo daily call, or use "Make Daily Call Now" option.
Current Call Status" will display "Pending Restart."
This means upgrade was received.
Receiver will reset itself.
TiVo logo appears with message that new software has been installed

You might try resetting though the menus to force part one.

From what I can tell it may still be being rolled out.

I just got it 2 days ago.

Ok I won't get too inpatient yet. I use a PPP connection and the "calls" have been going through fine and always end with Call Successful. "No Pending Restart" yet. I have activated my Series 2's and made calls using PPP before so I just think I haven't been CHOSEN yet.

Mine will never get upgraded. I have no phone line attached. Doesn't sound like I missing much :)

SO is this the way to block the update -- no phone line plugged in to make daily call?

thanks

My SAT-T60 makes its regular calls (every two days or so) but still no "Pending Restart" message. It looks like they are still rolling out.

I can verify that the NPL populates much quicker and the guide is also quicker, although you may see "not available" for a split second on some channels.

Jim is correct about the NPL and guide (though it takes 24 hours of uptime to get the full effect). My S1 was missing the correct DataListGroup entries needed to download the 3.5 slices from the Sat SDDs, so I just grabbed 3.5 slices off eMule and manually upgraded my unit.

The patience/phone call method is probably easier, but for those units with broken modems, slices might be the only way.

My box hadn't updated (at least as of last night). But given that it only calls in once a week, it isn't even going to try to make the phone call until Sunday.

I think it is too soon to be worried about not receiving the update. (Even if you have been forcing calls to see if they are ready to update your box)

Forced a call this morning (PPP connection) and still no update. Not a biggie or anything as this is mostly used as backup and for recording of kid shows and sports conflicts that don't fit on the series 2s.

I forced a call in last night just to check, and received the upgrade.
(And then I got the fun of going back and setting my channel lists again. And reentering the SORT code).

Hmmmmm...Phillips with no update yet. I do think I have seen some large downloads with long "loading data" times (15+ minutes, and mine calls every day normally). Could those be "slices"?

I got an oil change from a Valovline quick oil change facility, similar to Jiffy Lube.

They forgot to put the oil fill cap back on. I got oil all over my engine and driveway. I blame them. It took them over an hour to clean my engine a few days later. Fortunately I was only down 1 1/2 quarts of oil.

A company sells a turn key upgrade system for users that don't want to take any time to learn. The company should know a tivo upgrade isn't compatible with the kernel and may cause data corruption yet they don't block the upgrade. Yes I blame the company.

Some of the install scripts automatically set up an internet phone call. The user should know what's going on but I can understand some users not realizing what's going on.

RET2961--The slice files came down via the satellite. What version of the sofware are you currently running?

I may connect the laptop up tonight via PPP to the DSR6000 and see if I get the upgrade now.

---------
Forced the call today and the upgrade has been downloaded and applied.

FWIW,

Without any intervention from me, my Sony SAT-T60 finally received the the "go-ahead" from a dial-in day before yesterday and did the restart that night. So, yesterday I had to reset my favorites, but everything else is working normally. I did not have enough time to get a sense for whether the speed of some operations has improved or not.

So, they are apparently still working their way through "the list" of subscribed series 1 machines.
