I have a dsr6000 with 2.52 and extreme on it. I have cloned the drive, tried it, and it works perfectly. I tried to replace the clone with one in a second dsr6000, which is running version 3. I expected that it would GSOD then call51. Instead it never gets by "welcome powering up". When I switch both drives back both tivo's work. Is there a way to do this?

You've got to flash the prom. Easiest way I know is with the SiliconDust nic_install cd image available from their website.

Thank you for your reply. My two machines are not on a net. I have two direct tivos, both dsr6000s. One of the machines (2.52) has a modified hard drive and the other does not. I bought a new hard drive of the same size as the modified one and did a dd-rescue to the new drive. I installed the copied drive in the 2nd machine (3.1). Now, on the second machine, I cannot get beyond "Welcome. Powering up". I want both machines to be 2.52

Right. Get the SiliconDust ISO (http://www.silicondust.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=990), burn it to a CD, put either of your TiVo drives in your computer, boot to the SiliconDust CD, and run FlashTivo (relying on memory, bad thing to do...just follow the directions). Put the drive into your un-modded DSR6000, boot, clear and delete everything, enjoy.

PortlandPaw, you were absolutely right. /tivoflash/install. Worked like a charm. Thanks again.
