Greetings all.

I am wanting to get rid of all my services from AT&T, and I've just about decided to go with DSL and VOIP from Speakeasy. I've been doing some research on the forums this weekend to determine what trouble, if any, I might run into with this setup. I've read all the threads concerning Vonage VOIP and the hit or miss nature of getting the DirecTivo units to make successful calls. However I did not see any information specific to Speakeasy's VOIP service. Do any DirecTivo users on this board have service from this particular provider? Right now I'm working under the assumption that I might have the same types of difficulties with Speakeasy VOIP as the Vonage users can have. When I spoke with Speakeasy about this the person was honest and said that the calls from were not always successful. Any more input from people who might actually be using the service would be greatly appreciated so I can make a more informed decision.

TIA

You don't really need a continuous analog phone connection once your DVR has completed its initial Guided Setup. You'll only miss out on ordering PPV movies with your remote, but you can order them from DirecTV's web site instead. Also, you won't get software updates, but there probably won't be any more for the HDVR2 DVR.

I neglected to say in my original post that I also subscribe to NFL Sunday Ticket. The unit needs a phone connection for that, if I remember correctly.

Can I use some of the dialing prefixes I've been finding on the internet to force the modem to a lower speed? Or alternately can I use a wireless phone jack setup like one you can get a radio shack? Just thinking out loud.

I've been messing with various combinations of the dialing codes in these forums. So far I got it to dial but it freezes at "negotiating". Have to reboot and start over. Nothing seems to get past that point.
