Can anyone offer advice on adding a DVR to my current setup of cable box, a/v reciever, and tivo. I can not seem to figure it out. Do I need a spiltter?
Thank you,
Stacy

I would run the CATV cable to the cable box.
Out of the cable box run S-Video and left/right audio to the TiVo.
Set up the IR unit on the TiVo to control the Cable Box.
Out of TiVo you can out put one out put to the TV directly, or if you always use the AV Receiver, or it passes through (does not need to be powered on to pass the signal) you can out put TiVo to the AV receiver (again S-Video if you can with r/l) and then output the receiver to your TV (S-V & l/r).

Here's a question - I have the same problem BUT a universal remote. Do I run the same (S-video from box to TIVO), split sound to A/V and video to TV, and skip the IR cable since I'm using my universal remote to control both?

Bud-
Why wouldn't you make use of the AV receiver all the time (even if it doesn't pass through?)
aren't you limiting your sound output to the TV speakers only your way?

It is a kiddie thing...our the AV receiver is behind a magnetic lock on the cabinet.
When the wife and I watch we go input 1, but for the kids tv sound is fine. They are 4 and 2 and I also hide the DVD collection and CD collection behind the magnet lock.
Also, only TiVo 1 is hooked to the AV Receiver directly. Both are also hooked to AVCast as channel 78 and 80 as if cable channels on my system.
As for our friend with the universal remote....TiVo needs to control the cable box if you want to record digital channels. TiVo's tuner cannot handle past basic cable (unless you have a series 3 cable card unit).
